There is a revolution happening in the farm fields and on the dinner tables of America -- a revolution that is transforming the very nature of the food we eat.

THE FUTURE OF FOOD offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade.

From the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada to the fields of Oaxaca, Mexico, this film gives a voice to farmers whose lives and livelihoods have been negatively impacted by this new technology. The health implications, government policies and push towards globalization are all part of the reason why many people are alarmed by the introduction of genetically altered crops into our food supply.

Shot on location in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, THE FUTURE OF FOOD examines the complex web of market and political forces that are changing what we eat as huge multinational corporations seek to control the world's food system. The film also explores alternatives to large-scale industrial agriculture, placing organic and sustainable agriculture as real solutions to the farm crisis today.

    • How Monsanto Really Makes GMOs

Stand up for food safety and for labelling of GM ingredients on our labels. If there was nothing wrong with their fake bacteria food Monsanto would not fight so hard to keep its inclusion in our food off of our labels. Monsanto has bought off the FDA to declare GMOS the same as other food... this video proves that to be the lie it is. Do not be taken in by the rhetoric of Monsanto. It is an evil company only in this business for profit and to put small farmers outof business with their "patented" seeds. Any company that made PCBs, Agent Orange, Aspartame, and now Round Up poison herbicide that is also suspected of poisoning bee hives is not a company whose "food" you want to eat. Look at the information here in the 'Monsanto' tag and inform yourself. Then take action. We can make a difference. These foods must not be allowed to take over our world and much of the world is against them. Those who control our seeds controls our lives.

    • I just want to say I am VERY THANKFUL to be able to be apart of CURRENT T.V.,it is very sad that they're people who are not given the chance at all to know what is going on, then there are more people who have that beautiful right but choose to blind themselves. When is this world of WAR going to stop "WAR-ing". This War on life is choking me. People are "War-ing" against EVERYTHING, each other, the internet, innocent creatures, Earth, even our own food. Humans have proven to be the most terrifying creature on this planet. We couldn't even have evolved to be who we are without the precious gift of life. The only life we know, the only life we have and the only life we destroy. I would love to have the chance to meet Deborah Garcia. It was truly mind blowing to hear how knowledgeable she was about things that REALLY MATTER. I wish I could meet her and be able to be around people like her. I've never met anyone or seen anyone especially a women who seems to very genuinely care. It is nice to know that there are people who care but were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to professionally help save life on Earth. What about me? I want to make a positive change "professionally" to my planet so that my family can survive. All I need is a chance.I want to save our planet. The only planet that has LIFE on it! Doesn't anyone comprehend that? I can't help but be depressed knowing that my innocent baby has to drink polluted water, eat disease contaminated food and live in a world full of criminals. There is no where to run to get away. It is bad enough that there is starvation in the world but now the food is contaminated to eat. What is a Vegan to do????? I don't know what more to say to express how saddened I am to find out more loops in a holes. Thank you Deborah and the people who participated in trying to inform the people who would not know other wise.

5th Element, try not let things get to you too much. As you said, it is nice to know that there are people that care. Hold your chin up and get in touch with some enviromental groups in your area. Everyone needs volunteers. Teach these things you learn to your precious baby. That, more than anything will enrich us all.

    • The negative implications surrounding the large scale of this genetic engineering is scary... why are these mega corporations attempting to completely control the food supply..? Do they feed their children these genetically altered food products and, if so, what monsters do we have to be leary of in the future..?

One good point made during the movie, was that individuals using these genetically altered seeds to produce plants should fence in their products so that it doesn't damage other established organic and unaltered plants...instead of the other way around...

We need to get back to a sensible accountability and regulation that prohibits these sort of rip-off tactics to control the food supply and the money flow...which, could be weakening our immune systems and, in essense, weakening the basic strength of our national security, the health of our citizens...it's all about money and I can't tell the difference between the taste of the fruit and the box it comes in...

covelogibbs, thanks for posting this very revealing information...

You make it sound like gm food is unstable or something. Or that they actually injected something into the particular piece of food your eating, which they didn't. The last thing we need is more fear-mongering on this topic.

      ConAgra, guilty

      Monsanto, guilty
Look into state and national funding of agriculture technology in our colleges - despicable and whorish allocation of money.
Insist on locally produced food and, better still, buy only fruits and veggies while they are in season.

    • The only to keep this under control is re-regulation. Keeping these industrial-ag companies accountable fell under FDA and USDA guidelines. Not being educated enough in these matters I tend to rely on postings like this and ones from Janforgore to keep me informed on shenanagins of these corporate greedmeiesters. As far as I can tell regulations and agencies willing to enforce them is our only hope at this point.

    • GM crops have inferior yields and require massive use of insecticides which destroy the soil. But of course, Grim Reaper, with a handle like yours, you will welcome anything that spells massive death to mankind.

My point was that quite simply, the future of food will not be in soil. But more likely in some kind of dense vertical farm. The link i provided in my previous comment has one great example of this. Also it's not that i don't care about all those poor farmers, it's that something as vital as our food supply deserves to get all the technological advancement we can get. Here's another link to a story on a very interesting company, Organitech. They are working on the vertical farm idea and it holds great promise for increasing food production in a controlled environment where yield can be better predicted and controlled.

    • I for one welcome gm crops. I'm so sick of everyone freaking out about this subject. Also, do you really think we should stop progress in such a vital area as our food supply just because lots of poor farmers can't keep up? really? The future of food is not in traditional farming. Just as we've been cramming more people into smaller spaces we will eventually have to do this with agriculture. This article from popular science presents a very interesting look at what could possibly be our solution to this and other problems in the not so far future.

    • What should every person know about the food they ingest. The documentary "The Future of Food" changed the way we think about food(and continues to do so) by answering this very question. But, just how has food actually changed? Do we need to worry about genetically modified foods? What about artificial foods? Learn all this more as Kurt Olson, host of the Educational Forum, sits down with Deborah Garcia the award winning creator of "The Future of Food."
