Two-headed cat meows through both mouths

However, the cat has a cleft palate and can only eat through one mouth.
Only one in a million kittens is born with two heads and it is unusual for this one to be doing so well.
In August a kitten with four eyes, two noses and one mouth was born in Ohio, but it died after five days.
The condition is thought to be more common among snakes and turtles.
The cat was delivered in a vet's surgery in Perth, Western Australia, after its mother experienced complications during the birth.
Louisa Burgess, who helped deliver the cat told the Australian website InMyCommunity.co.au: "I have seen cats with two tails and extra legs, but not this.
"It has a full tummy and it survived the night so that is a good sign. It seems content, it meows and purrs.

Usually it is kinder to cull a kitten with a cleft pallet, as they do drown when they attempt to nurse. I hope the owner takes this kitten to a vet to see if the kitten is healthy.
When a kitten purrs, it isn't always out of being comfortable, part of it is a reaction to find and attract it's mother. The mother will do the exact same thing. It will loudly purr back at the kittens. So the fact that the kitten can meow and purr does not indicate that it isn't in pain or should be kept alive.
I bred show cats for 12 years. Raised I don't know how many kittens and was responsible for the life of each one.

Again, the kitten has no way to communicate if it is in pain. Very irresponsible for anyone to breed kittens like this.

I don't think they are intentionally bred, no human is responsible for this malformation, so there is no irresponsibility involved, in my opinion.

I shudder to think of the breeding accident that occurred to get this mess from purebred Persian-Himalayan cats.
Very irresponsible. I hope that breeder retired all cats involved in that bloodline. - 3 years ago

We had a four-eared cat growing up. It was in so much pain that we had to put it to sleep. I will never forget the agony of that decision, made by the entire family, and suffered though as a family. And that was 40 years ago...
As the article says, most animals born this way are living in excruciating pain every moment they are alive. I hope this one is happy, safe, and warm, but it breaks my heart to look at it...

Where did the article say this cat is in pain? It actually says "It has a full tummy and it survived the night so that is a good sign. It seems content, it meows and purrs."

This is the result of a congenital deformity. Something has gone wrong in the early embryonic development
The article implies it. Animals born this way and with similar deformities almost always die quickly. Also, it is common sense. I think if anyone cared to research deformed animals, the consesus would be that they are in pain.

I gotta still disagree with you. I read the whole article, nothing "implies" that it's in pain at all! In fact, "it seems very content" implies the exact OPPOSITE.
I'm not trying to argue really, I'm sure a lot of deformed animals are in pain, but there is no reason to assume that in this case. Every situation is different and honestly, the cat is doing a lot better than expected by admission of the article. All I'm trying to say is that there is no mention of the cat being in pain or even unhappy.

Delia, our cat was the same way until it found its voice and grew up a bit. My fear is that this animal will continue to be exploited well into the pain phase of its life.

Honestly I hope that if this cat grows up and it's apparent that it's always in pain, they euthanize it. - 3 years ago

Poor little thing. I hope its adopted family of humans
love it and comfort it,because it must be in pain. I hope it
lives as long as it can, and has love all its life because to live and have love in this World is untimately the only
condition that make the gift of life worthwhile. It freaks me out to think that the irresponsible acts of any humans have contributed in any way to this. I would be ashamed to be human if I ever found that out to be true. - 3 years ago
