ALERT: Dennis Wolff being considered for Sec of Agriculture

(You...) may remember this name: Dennis Wolff. He-s the Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture, dairy farmer and rBGH user, and the author of the infamous PA rules that would have banned ANY kind of rBGH-free labeling. This was an outrageous attempt to censor the freedom of speech of dairy processors and snuff out the consumers right to know what-s in their dairy products. In response, Oregon PSR and our nationwide and PA colleagues organized a massive grass roots effort to protest to Governor Ed Rendell. After receiving thousands of messages of outrage, he told Wolff to rescind the ban. Now Wolff-s name has surfaced again, only at a much higher, more dangerous level - he-s being considered by Barack Obama as the new Secretary of Agriculture. We must do everything possible to prevent this from happening and I urge you to send a quick e-mail to help. I-ve heard one unconfirmed report that Obama could make the decision as early as this Monday. Here are suggested talking points. Please feel free to put them in your own words and add your own, but please do send the e-mail.
1. If you voted for Obama, or better yet, volunteered for him, please say so up front.
2. Say up front that you are opposed to Dennis Wolff as Secretary of the Agriculture Department.
3. Remind Obama that he promised to bring positive change, and one of those changes is a return to our democratic principles with respect for the Constitution.
4. Dennis Wolff would take us in the opposite direction:
a. He tried to ban all labeling of dairy products that didn-t use the genetically engineered growth hormone rBGH or rBST. This was an outright violation of freedom of speech of the dairy processors and the farmers who supplied them.
b. This action would have prevented consumers from knowing which dairy products had the artificial hormone, suppressing our right to know what-s in our food. It is contradictory that Obama would support country of origin labels that would help inform consumers where their food is coming from, yet appoint someone who tried to cut off our ability to make other choices about our food.
5. Dennis Wolff lacks credibility and can-t be trusted:
a. He said that consumers were concerned or confused about the labeling and said his department received many calls about it. Yet when a New York Times reporter asked him about this, Wolff couldn-t provide any surveys showing consumers were confused and could not come up with the name of ONE CONSUMER who had complained.
b. He held one meeting of the so-called Food Labeling Advisory Committee and said they recommended the labeling ban. Yet the committee never voted on anything and never made any recommendations specific to dairy. Moreover, the group most affected by the rules and most opposed to them, the PA Association of Milk Dealers, was never even invited to the meeting. This doesn-t have to be a long e-mail, but it-s important to let the truth be known and to feel free to say exactly what you-re thinking. If you would like further details, please feel free to contact me. And, as with all these updates, please feel free to forward this to anyone you like.
To send your personal message to the president-elect, go to:

Please make your voices heard - Thank you!

Food has been reduced to a profit and commodity model.
Like JanforGore says, the items that she puts up here that might help educate viewers, is continually shot down. Why? (rhetorical, no need to answer)
If we get someone like this man as the head of Agriculture, well, what can I say? Our country is run by the corporations. Election? Food wasn't even discussed (that I ever heard anyway?).
War and Economy. The video I am linking is great, awesome panel and I wanted to share it with anyone who may not have run across this. It is ONLY one hour, ( I wish it could have continued)

Look who the corporate media is today. The beneficiaries of 9/11; the biggest beneficiaries have been Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, the Carlyle Group, Boeing, Halliburton, the military industrial contractors, each of those have had 300 to 400 percent increase in their stock value in the last five years, and when we look at those groups and the memberships of their boards, Carlyle has someone sitting on the New York Times board, Bechtel sits on NBC, Boeing sits on ABC, Halliburton sits on ABC, Lockheed Martin sits on Gannett. And just as an observation: I actually went through the first 50 pages of this site and did not see this entry. I just posted it last night and it was at 26 when I left. So even considering the views, voting, comments, etc, there is no way this would be off this site within view in that length of time unless it had some "help." I also notice not one of my posts from this entire week except for the post I placed here about water scarcity in the Colorado River yesterday morning is still within view of anyone, even though there are crap celebrity posts and other assorted nonsense that is still within the first 50 pages. It sure gives you a good look into what a segment of the people who vote here are made of, hence the current shape of our country and our media. Current in my view definitely needs a new format.

MONSANTO : ONE SCARY PSYCHO CORP !
PROOF OF CONCEPT
Americans have been drinking pus filled milk for years now;Monsanto's Genetically Modified Milk Ruled Unsafe by The United Nation...
The Codex Alimentarius Commission, the U.N. Food Safety Agency representing 101 nations worldwide, has ruled unanimously in favor of the 1993 European moratorium on Monsanto's genetically engineered hormonal milk (rBGH). This unexpected ruling, revealingly greeted by the U.S. press with deafeningsilence, is a powerful blow against U.S. global trade policies which are strongly influenced by powerful multi-national corporations, such as Monsanto.

Do the thirty percent of people who voted this down even know WHY they did? I should have had a naked woman holding a glass of milk as my photo and that would have probably showed up on the entry and catapulted it to TV already. Unbelievable how people cannot even see the importance of what goes into their own bodies.

It would also show Obama for a liar. Supposedly he claimed he would fight for labelling of GMOs in the campaign, though I didn't hear it because GMOs were not even touched at the debates or in any interview on the MSM that I know of. So, why would he appoint a Sec of Agriculture who actually fought labeling if he meant what he supposedly said? Why do I think that Monsanto has a stronger hold on this government that any president? And even though they supposedly "sold" Posilac to Eli Lilly, those two companies are like peas and carrots and nothing has changed otherwise by that smoke and mirrors sale.
This is really the most important appointment besides EPA, FDA, and Dept of the Interior. These are the appointments that affect our health and environment, and if you appoint the wrong person our economy also suffers. So I will be writing a letter to Obama just as I did about "clean coal" to ask him why he would even think to appoint a man who opposed labelling and the Democratic process of a food MILLIONS OF CHILDREN take into their bodies every day if he believes in Democracy and the consumers who placed their trust in him. Let's hope his answer is to listen to the people if he truly cares about what we have to say.

"Got Organic?": New Study Finds that Organic Milk is Vastly More Nutritious
Yes, the USDA has been fibbing and it's official: Organic milk is vastly superior to conventional milk. No matter how many times the USDA and the National Dairy Council tell us that there is not a single difference between organic and conventional milk, our taste buds tell a whole different story. Yes, we already knew organic milk tastes much better than conventional, but now we have a scientific explanation for why. Scientists have found that organic milk has such higher levels of nutrients that it’s fairly shocking the dairy industry has been telling us otherwise. (more at link)

Here's what I wrote:
I am firmly opposed to Dennis Wolff as Secretary of the Agriculture Department. Please choose someone that comes from an ORGANIC farming background. At a time when we need a change in the direction of more labeling about what's in our food, GMO's, rGBH, etc., the choice of Dennis Wolff as Secretary of the Agriculture Department is a move in the wrong direction.
Please, for the sake of your children and my children and our very future look for another more qualified candidate, one that will instill confidence that our food is safe.
Also, please consider switching the White House to an all ORGANIC menu. This would send a strong message to the world that your presidency will be one that cares about it's impact on the environment.
Thanks for your time and consideration and remember "Yes We Can!"
Covelo Gibbs
P.S. I voted for you and am so proud, congratulations.
P.P.S. Please, please, please put the solar panels back on the White House.

covelogibbs:
It seems ironic to me that Dennis Wolff would say this: (from Jan's link above)
"If consumers have preferences about the way food is produced such as “grass-fed,” “organic,” or “natural,” that’s their choice. However, in this situation, consumers are not basing their decisions on sound science but rather on manipulative marketing."
And then:
"Our dairy farmers need new technology. They need all the opportunities that they have available to them to run profitable operations today."
Since producing and labeling your product as Organic or grass-fed would allow farmers to sell their products at a premium (natural, however doesn't mean much of anything) and hence possibly increase their profits.
It seems obvious to me who Wolff is/would be fighting for and it's not the consumer, but Monsanto and big, conventional agribusiness.
