"Got Organic?": New study finds that organic milk is vastly more nutritious

Yes, the USDA has been fibbing and it's official: Organic milk is vastly superior to conventional milk. No matter how many times the USDA and the National Dairy Council tell us that there is not a single difference between organic and conventional milk, our taste buds tell a whole different story. Yes, we already knew organic milk tastes much better than conventional, but now we have a scientific explanation for why. Scientists have found that organic milk has such higher levels of nutrients that it’s fairly shocking the dairy industry has been telling us otherwise.

    • Organic and unpasteurized is best. Up until the FDA came busting into my local grocer, I was getting it for $7 a gallon (gasp!) now I can't find it in stores at all and go through the Weston A Price foundation to find local farmers who will sell it to me directly.

    • Organic always seems to be tastier, but there is another significant difference between the two: It's also much more expensive, unfortunately.

    • So milk that is naturally made is more nutritious than milk made with manmade genetically altered hormones and chemicals? NO WAY! I never would have guessed that.

    • i def. agree that we should switch over from cow milk to human milk. I think that human breast milk is lot more nutritious than cow milk. Cow milk is for calf. Human milk is for 21 year-old guys who still lives in their parent's basement. I win once again.

    • Monsanto lobbied the FDA in 1994-1996 to repeal a Vermont Law requiring whether rsbt were in the milk they were selling to the citizens of vermont.

I agree that it is weird to drink another animals milk intended for their young. But calling it pus makes it seem disgusting, where really I know milk is vital to child development, be it mother's or cow's.

    • GeoffNI:

Pus is white blood cells, serum and bacteria that is not normaly produced in anything, human or animal, unless there is an infection present. Milk is fat and protein with a few other things like calcium and vitamins mixed in. I'm not saying that it isn't possible for other fluids to enter into the milk of cows but I am saying that there is a HUGE dfference between pus and the liquid that the female cow's mammary glands produce.

    • GeoffNI:

Literally speaking…the female cows in dairy production suffer the most…they are artificially inseminated to keep them in a constant state of lactation. The disgusting conditions in which these cows are forced to live combined with the constant strain of being hooked up to painful milking machines having their utters pulled/yanked/ and stretched over and over again do create sores and cuts also know as mastitis… a mastitis is a painful infection of the mammary glands. Due to the infection their irritated and swollen utters excrete blood and puss as well as milk. With nearly half of all dairy cows suffering with this particular infection it is a fact that a lot of blood and puss end up in your dairy products. YUMMY!

    • Is it too much to ask to have government officials who work for the best interests of the people instead of the richest lobbyists that come through their door?

I can only hope the next appointees to head the USDA and the FDA will look on the failures of their predecessors with complete and utter disdain.

Have you followed the links above and e-mailed Barack Obama about his not appointing Dennis Wolff as new Secretary of Agriculture?

Dennis Wolff is all about working for the best interests of rich lobbyists instead of the people and our president elect is considering him for this very important post.

There's not much time, Obama may decide Monday, so e-mail today if you can. :)

    • Now if only the prices on organic milk could go down to match those of conventional milk...

Not that I really drink any milk myself (just soymilk), but I know that a lot of people out there can't exactly afford to shop for organic products because of the price differences.

    • Thanks, covelogibbs, this does concern our lives. We have to hold them accountable to us now. Millions of children wake up every morning and put exactly what on their cereal? Pus? IGF-1? To not care about this to me is to be someone who just does not see the big picture. Parents need to be aware to look for the labels on their milk that say no artifical hormones or ingredients. Organic milk has them and some other labels such as Tuscan brands. Ben and Jerry's as well have no hormones in their ice cream, and actually, if you look for European brands for cheeses you might fare better.
