German astronomers tracked the movement of 28 stars circling the centre of the Milky Way, using the European Southern Observatory in Chile.

My concern is just that the sun will supposedly orbit through the center of the milky way galaxy, and the wyans predicted this happens every 28000 years , so that means this has happened before and everything was ok right? black holes are scary , hopefully the sun just orbits right around it.

That's interesting, and the idea of a blackhole is really under debate as well, but this is very interesting all the same. I think this has a lot to do with the movement of things in the milky way.

Coincidence; it apears at the same time the US national debt is in the trillions? That sucking sound is your dollars going down another black hole right here!

Black holes are not scary i have one in my head my brain used to be.
No really, it is a very very far away and will take forever to get any were near us if it can grow as speculated.

The real news is that people are so misinformed about black holes.
Yes it has a gravitational effect on us, but less than that of our own Sun and Moon.
Black holes don't suck everything into them. Objects can orbit black holes just like any massive body.
This is not going to bring upon the apocalypse in 2012. If you want to predict doom from an astronomical body you're better off looking at Betelgeuse or Antares.

scientifically that might help explain the 'dark matter' issues. Personally, I think I have a cousin (a very tiny cousin to be sure) of the black hole living in the bottom of my purse--and another in the kitchen.
AND really, that explains where the socks go!

dont be afraid... if it were to cause us any harm it would happen very quickly...... or really really slowly stretching half our planet like silly putty at first, then most objects would launch themselves spontainiously into the cold dark space where up is down light is dark and a monkey in a lab coat shoots your mother full of aids in the name of science........
but like everything, thats just a theory - 3 years ago

The interesting thing about these super massive black holes is that they could the cause of galaxy formation. If this is true, then we owe our very existence to most destructive force in the universe. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Black holes are fascinating things, they are so dense and massive and their gravitational pull so strong that they can swallow and bend light around them.
Technically they are not black holes but black spheres that suck all the light around them thus giving the appearance of a hole...

Its pretty much been known that there was a huge black hole at the center of the galaxy. It does some pretty cool stuff, because of the gravity around it, it creates starts from all the dust it is sucking in.
But luckly we have nothing to worry about, we are far far away from this black hole. Maybe in a few billion years the planet might have to worry, but by then our sun will probably have blown up and destroyed the planet.

no reason to fret, were not gonna get sucked it. why...some equalizing force somthingorother at some point close to the center and stuff. i dont remember but some smart guy on that "the universe" series said we'd be hunkydory and if he's wrong theres nothing to do about it but get high and shitfaced while you still can.

What if all matter in the universe existed as black holes for anti-matter? we would be the products of black holes. One could argue that black holes are universes that exist within our universe. Why not?

I might be wrong but I know what i've heard before. I've heard in one or two reports that come december 21 2012 what's really going to happen based on astrological studies is that all the planets in the milky way will be aligned and the earth will be dead center in the milky way. If theirs a black hole in the center doesn't that spell trouble? I'm not positive but this is what i've heard. If you've heard the same let me know.

We are SO far from the center of the galaxy now, that it would take us way more than 4 years to get there. Also, how does one think that all the planets in the entire galaxy will align? I hope it's in a conga line.

Many don't realize that black holes are a lot more common than we think. We can't also forget the micro black holes that exist out there.

Yes, black holes are at the center of galexys; however, we always just assumed there was one at the center of ours. We have never been able to confirm it. It's like if you were a biologist and examined a bunch of dead animals to find that they all had hearts, and assumed you had a heart as well. And only now (this study) indirectly conformed your hypothesis.

I wonder where the lensing effect kicks in for this galaxy?
Where would beings from outside galaxy begin feeling the effects of relative perception when visiting ours?
Time is entirely relative; would the same quantified amount of time pass more quickly beyond the effects of galactic black-holes. A year beyond is a day here sorta thing; without traveling at excessive speeds simply due to proximity of super-gravity. - 3 years ago

what other side? nobody knows anything about what happens when something goes into a black hole. my best guess would be it just gets super compressed. that accounts for it being so frickin heavy. if stuff got shot out the other end it would lose mass..
