Basically, what these little fellows do is reach sexual maturity, and then revert back to sexually immature and grow up again.

Wouldn't that suck to hit your sexual peak and have no other creatures like you around, Then lose it and meet up with a group...

It would be very interesting to be able to study the animal for the secrets of longevity and immortality. Perhaps we can learn something about what it means to be immortal, I know I sure wouldn't mind living forever.
Some scientists believe that some of the earliest organisms didn't age at all. Aging came later in the evolutionary process as a byproduct of something else. What that something else is, is still a mystery.

The article is wrong. This thing is no more immortal than almost any reptile. Once they reach maturity thier cells do not degenerate. As Heinlein put it, "No tortoise has ever died from old age". They live until they die of disease, predation, accident, etc.
Immortality is not unique, just not complete. Unless the author of the article is implying that this thing would survive an episode of Will it Blend?

Yes and you too can be immortal but only if you refert to being pre-pubescent and then go through puberty all over again!

So basically, these guys grow old enough to mate, and then get to go back to being a kid again? I've never felt such envy!

Makes sense, if you mutate the ability to not die then the population of you and your clone buddy and his clone buddy will keep growing exponentially until you are the population majority, Though with a lack in genetic variation, this species could easily be wiped out by a minor change in their niche.

OK, so it's like going through puberty over and over again. But seriously, this sounds llike a "process" that might work for humans. You would be getting that growth hormone adjustment each time you crossed the line between immature and nubile.
