Scientists say NASA satellite data on global warming 'should alarm people'.

More than 2 trillion tons of land ice in Greenland, Antarctica and Alaska have melted since 2003, according to new NASA satellite data that show the latest signs of what scientists say is global warming.

    • If you haven't seen the movie "An Unfortunate Truth" by Al Gore you should. It explains in great detail how this is all coming to pass and at what rate.

People can say many things but that doesn't make it so. When you have pictures taken of glaciers many years ago and compare them to pictures of today as in his movie you can see the truth. Global warming is indisputable.

I do not understand how educated people can even think to scoff at such things. The evidence is overwhelming in support of the reality of global warming.

Maybe they think they will just buy some beach front property in Colorado and life will be good. The problem here is when the oceans temperatures increase even by one degree the changes are astronomical. Weather patterns begin to change as the trade winds, northerns and westerlies, easterlies and southerns begin to change due to the fact they are driven by the ocean's temperatures. The ocean currents begin to change and everything goes helter skelter.

We are already seeing signs of this by the change in number and intensity of the hurricanes as of late. This is only going to increase at an alarming rate. Weather patterns will become erratic around the globe. Where it used to be hot it will be cold and vice versa. What used to be the norm will become the exception and so on and so on.

I think this can still be turned around but not for much longer. This is a global concern that is going to take a concerted effort.

I think Barack Obama gets this and is aimed at trying to bring together this world effort. We as Americans need to support him in any way we can. Getting the word out is the first step!

    • This should worry many around the world it is due to the ice that our planet is kept in check for many reasons. Without our Arctic Ice our planet will see many changes beyond our control. We have been warned for many years and now - well scientists told us so and our leaders put cotton inside their eardrums so they wouldn't have to listen. What goes around comes around.

    • "between Greenland, Antarctica and Alaska, melting land ice has raised global sea levels about one-fifth of an inch in the past five years"

May not sound huge, but seems like it was enough to flood Venice!

    • Amazing, people are still debating whether global warming is real and if it's man-made or not. It's about time they jump into reality and face the truth. The evidence is clear enough and the consequences are dire. This is one of the consequences and it's going to get worse, unfortunately.

    • Just yesterday we heard the opposite.

31,072 scientists do not believe the world is flat, and they say there is no convincing scientific evidence that so-called greenhouse gasses are causing catastrophic heating of the earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the earth’

    • i wonder if at one time all the planets in our solar system had some sort of life forms inhabiting them but they slowly destroyed their planet, kinda like what we're doing here with global warming.

    • it's still debatable when it interferes with our way of life. face it, most of us live a privileged life. we don't want to change that.

    • You wouldn't think so, BLAMM_O.

      Seems pretty cut and dry.

My theory? The uber-wealthy are too busy building personal water dasalinization plants and bio-domes for their personal safety and comfort to deal with everyone else.

I think they world's billionaires have already privately concluded that the warming is irreversible (during their lifetimes anyway) so they've decided to pour their efforts into protecting themselves and to hell with the rest of the world.

    • Jan,
It happens to my posts all the time. It depends on how active your connections are really. It also depends on how Current internally votes up or down your post. It's not a democracy. Another huge contributing factor that I have learned is ones "personal popularity". If one constantly talks down to people on every single comment, they will vote your stories down. I have learned that most people in this community don't like being condecsended to in any form. That's why I try to support my connections when ever possible with POSITIVE feedback and commentary. Being neutral and supportive all the time is hard, but it's the best way to get people to hear you. have a good day.

    • This is no joke. And it's amazing how this submission which was made after mine and has less responses or information is climbing up the charts so much faster. But hey, if it makes TV all well and good as the information is what is important. I just find it unfair that people here who actually take the time to post commentary in their submissions like journalists are supposed to do and include pertinent information don't seem to be as appreciated here as cut and paste.
