Latest temperature chart shows where climate is headed

This story and graphic shows it's all up for world's temperature - despite 2008 being cooler compared to the last few years. Good links and more in this story on James Hansen who twenty years ago warned Congress of this looming global problem.

    • Although there's not enough data here to forecast the long term temp., you can actually get a little short term information. Using channel analysis and cyclicality you can see that a major cycle completed, from low to low, in 1963. The previous low in 1891 shows that cycle to be about 71 years long. We are now 45 years along on the next cycle. That means the next low should manifest in about 25 more years. Now looking at the envelope created by enclosing the data, we could estimate that the low expected 25 years from now will bottom out at about +.2 on this chart. Probably up again from there, but without more historical data to determine longer term cycles you really can't tell.
