To be honest this study, although peer reviewed, hasn’t changed my opinion of yoga. It’s still new age stretching, which is fine if you’re into that sort of thing. Personally I’d rather save the time and money by learning to stretch properly from a professionally trained, and scientifically orientated individual before delving into the pseudo scientific world of yoga.
Same thing applies to sex. I don’t think I would seek out sexual enlightenment from someone who believes in chakras, energy feels, or spirits for that matter. I would rather consult a professionally trained and licensed individual for that information.

Have you actually ever been to a modern studio and tried any yoga? There's many different forms and they vary greatly. Some of the more contemporary or hybrid styles like Bikram or Jivamukti verge on gym activity, though they offer far more benefits than a standard workout in a traditional health club.

don't knock it till you try it.
I do a 90min Vinyasa class where the room is heated to 100 degrees. Trust me, it is a lot more than streatching.
I wouldn't say that it verges on gym activity but rivals it. I feel much better after a 90 minute class than I do after 90 minutes at the gym. It's total body rather than focusing on one part of your body at a time.

Its really more than stretching or new age stretching, but you would have to try it to realilze that. We all stretch after running or lifting weights. The breath control that takes place normally during yogs has beneficial effects and one can learn to increase blood flow to different body organs which is something they try to do in physical therapy.
Unless you try it for a period of time you won't really know. And you don't need to think about Chakras or energy to do it. I know football players who do yoga and busy executives who are stressed out and are not into anything spirtual. They do it for its relaxation and its anti-aging effects. - 3 years ago

Hot yoga sounds interesting, as a Floridian I understand the benefits of physical exercise in a hot and humid environment. That being said I’m not to sure I would tout the benefits of sweating your ass off with flexibility, balance, or whatever.
Unless your immediate concern is yoga and flexibility I doubt it’s advantageous to place such high priority on a single element of physical fitness. In a well balanced physical routine that energy might be better saved for an activity that absolutely requires a high degree of physical exertion.
Personally as a 6’4 200 pound guy I’m not so interested in yoga. Since moving to Orlando I’ve had a surge of interest in long boarding. My problem is I’m a lot bigger than I was as a kid and I’m not as flexible. Some might say this I’m a perfect candidate for yoga but in reality it’s not that simple.
I could make a concerted effort to slim down to an artificially low weight through hot yoga. This might make me more flexible and again might make it easier for me when I crouch low, place a gloved hand on the concrete and slide the back end of my board forward. Then again it might be easier to exclusively focus on flexibility in my legs while I strength train my upper body.
I don’t really need to train for balance since long boarding is an exercise in balance in itself. Likewise I do not necessarily need to spend so much time slimming down because my body has already adjusting to the rigors of long boarding.
Does that mean yoga is useless, by all means no. It does mean however that it takes a particular individual with particular needs to take advantage of all that yoga has to offer. Learning to become a proficient public speaker has a beneficial effect upon love making but rarely, if ever, do you see people taking vocal classes for sexual reasons.
The converse of this logic has me place yoga’s benefits in direct comparison of other specialized skill building initiatives. Yes yoga is great for flexibility and relaxation, and yes hot yoga can be an amazing way to combine weight reduction and stretching. On the other hand I feel much better stretching for free (or in the case of a gym on my own time, which is money) and spending that extra time/money on something that’s better at relaxing me.
In short the multiple benefits of yoga are not necessarily universal for everyone.

I think the benefits this article talk about derive from the breath control, muscle development, and heightened sense of body image that an established yoga practice graces the practitioner with.

This I believe. Doing yoga exercises makes women feel lusty, because it moves blood into the pelvic region. I don't know about men.

Yoga helps one get in touch with their body, and that improves one's quality of life in all areas. This is no surprise to me.

I used to do an hour a day and it has soooooo many benefits. It calms the brain and helps reduce apitite, and increase memory and also increase lust. That could be a problem if one does not have a partner or significant other, though.

My friend said she once went to class with their famously long celibate Yogi. No one else happened to be there that day. The two sat facing each and at some point were soon rolling around together.
So much for celibacy. - 3 years ago

I think most of them are not really celibant. Everything they do from meditation to yoga actually inceases sex drive so it must boe so difficult that they can not resist.

Now I am jealous! Do they have yoga for people like me? Uh, I'm not so athletic these days. (blek!)
But the research doesn't surprise me at all. Before I was extremely flexible and strong and EVERYTHING was just easier. Not just sex, I mean anything physical in life.

Down dog... LOL, I wouldn't be surprised it most people didn't get that... my wife does yoga, I even took a class with her a few semesters back. Our sex life is great, so maybe their onto something?? Maybe yogi's are just more likely to be sexual people?

"scientifically proven", LOL
Unfortunately I do know what it means for something to be "scientifically proven".
The term "scientifically proven" is not a term of science but a term used by laymen.
Nothing is ever "proven" in science.
Science may support a hypothesis or theory. Science may strongly suggest a correlation, a cause, a relationship, etc. - but science never "proves".

my friend just loaned me a DVD with Kundalini Yoga and swears that it helps her become aroused.
apparently the rocking and breathing help create energy that you allow to flow throughout your body, and direct toward a climax. - 3 years ago

Meditators that have been meditating for a while say that they have an increased sex drive. I believe that about the yoga.......I experienced an increase in lust and one of my friends who did it said she did also.
But thats not the reason for doing it. It is really good for the health and a flexible spine is a young spine. - 3 years ago
