"Emergency services would be strained, and command and control might be lost."
The sun operates on an 11-year cycle, with the next "active" phase due in 2012 likely to present the nearest danger.

They r saying tat the human generation is gona extinct and the main is due this sun strom. After the scientist warnings, the wordings of christ in bible and in hindu as the end of kali yuga all have got feared out...., the radiations level r gona increase from the sun and its not gona bust since it is fusion process and nt fission process. Through the ozone hole they travel to earth and affect tat area and get reflected, some refracted rays goes to other region and affect other areas. This will nt kill the mankind but the natural calamities would be severe due to this becoz of the magnetic fields. The peoples strength of unity is the only source of weapon to face dem as per survival of the fittest...., this is the only truth for the tat gona happen later tat may be 2012 r any year....,

So, really, what are the probabilities for something occuring in 2012? 20%? 3%? 60%?
Seriously, the sun is the power house of our life system and we have to respect its power....

Some of the less pessimistic suggestions about 12/21/12 seem to imply that there will be a shift in human consciousness. Maybe when we are forced to live without our creature comforts and countless things we neither appreciate nor acknowledge then that will happen. Now I'm not saying I look forward to this solar storm or whatever's coming, but I hope that we can learn from whatever does happen, and that some shift of consciousness (hopefully in the human direction not the animal direction we seem to be going in) will happen in our lifetimes. I sincerely hope that people will stop taking things for granted, that they will learn how to live without all the luxuries that others invented and installed for us. That is not to say we shouldn't use those things, we should just be prepared to live without them and appreciate them while we have them.

Before you dismiss this whole thing as doomsday nonsense just look at the world around you. The magnetic polarity of our planet is weakening in the process of its shift. The same magnetic fields that have protected mankind from solar winds since the dawn of civilization as we know it. Earthquakes are are happening under the Earth's largest supervolcano (Yellowstone) in a way only precedented right around the time of the coming of the last ice age. Bees are disappearing at an alarming rate, leaving our crops unpollenated. Every summer since 98' has been progressively hotter that the previous. Ice caps are melting exponentially faster each year. Massive storms are becoming even more massive and larger in number. Then you have prophets from all corners of the world pointing to the same date Dec. 21 2012 as being the end of something. It seems as though 2012 could be a plausible culmination to this ecological drama. You can speculate and say what you will about ominous dates in the not so distant future and the Lord coming like a thief in the night, but you cannot deny what is going on around you.

I don't thank that man knows when the end will come. Only God and his judgement knows. The question is, what will you do about it? There is a meaning to our lives. When God sees that the sinning man has brought too much destruction along with the deceiving devil, he will cast
Revelation 21:8, But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Guys, we can die anytime. Whether it being today or tomorow. Why would you want to be any of those evil things anyway? We need to repent to Jesus Christ confess your sins to Him. He will give you a renewed heart. This is not to force anything down your throat but it is for the caring and the love. We all will die someday. If it is near 2012, that is soon. Please seek the truth! "If you seek the truth, you will find the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:31-32"

So let's see. An eleven year cycle. Next cycle 2012, that would make the last cycle 2001, I'm still here, the world seems to have made it pretty good. OKay, maybe that one was a dud, let's see the next. Ummm....1990, right? I lived up by Chicago at that time, seemed there were times the world was pretty shaky, but I think that had more to do with the area rather than the sun, well, that's only two. Let's try the next on, wwwhhhiiiccchhh wwwooouuullldd bring us to around 1979, a year after I graduated from high school (that seems like ancient history). I don't remember anything melting away, but then I don't remember to much of anything from that time, except that I seemed to be hungry a lot. 1968, just a kid, if everything was melting, well, I probably played in the puddle, but, sorry, just don't recall any sunbursts creating havoc. Which brings is to 1957 and since I was even a snap in my daddy's pants at that time just have to conclude that it's just another person that is trying to prey on some folks tendency to panic every time someone yells boo. Maybe if they realize that they can come out of the basement now because everything didn't collapse when we went from 1999 to 2000 they could see for themselves that everything is fine and not one more minute of the worry that they have and are trying to cause in others, isn't going to take away one more minute or add any more seconds to the time that the good Lord already has intended for each and every one of us. Stop worrying about tomorrow flying saucer boy, today has enough worry's of it's own.

"Find it difficult to believe that "developed" governments would allow a storm to significantly disrupt their communications, etc. without at least attempting to make some preparations. Since that is a security threat, and a disruption of business, no doubt preparations will be made. So, ultimately, the damage will be minimized to the developed world."

I did not post what I posted to sway you. You are clearly into the things you believe the average lay-person is ignorant of. Things that you (unfortunately) believe, like:
UFOs
Government Conspiracies
etc.
My goal, then, is to make sure there is a solid (logical) counter-point to your hysteria. It is my responsibility to provide balance to your lack of reasoning and thought. The sad fact is that UFOs exist, but not how you'd like them to. Government conspiracies have existed, but are hardly as well thought out or organized as you would like to believe. The fact that what I posted struck a nerve with you can be clearly seen in that you claimed I was from a "chinese lair army" I have threatened your view of what is to come, and that meant you needed to attack me.
The report speaks in terms of today's conditions. 5 years ago current.com would not have been possible, and you no doubt did not do most of your shopping online. Technology advances. The sad fact is that NASA no matter how intelligent it's members are, are not capable of foreseeing the future. Someone, off in the corner somewhere, could be preparing a new type of shielding for transformers, etc. Or, in the event of a large storm, no doubt NASA is watching and supplies could be ordered in advance to minimize damage and downtime.
Do I necessarily believe that the lights will stay on through the coming storm? I don't know. It's a possibility, but they could also go off. However, never underestimate the ability of humans with a collective cause to act quickly to solve a problem and restore things to "normalcy" as quickly as possible.

so what is everyone going to do when 2012 comes and goes. most likely realize that the world keeps on spinning no matter what the mayans or nostradamus or any other piece of flesh thinks about its possible demise. STOP WISHING FOR THE APOCOLYPSE TO COME AND REDEEM YOU FROM YOUR MEANINGLESS EXISTANCE. anyone remember Y2K? The only good that could possibly come from this fear campaign is we would finally get our electrical grids updated. And if i'm wrong and the whole world comes to an end I'll be glad since so many humans can finally quit reinventing the next grandiose reason for an approaching apocolypse.

I'm afraid this is just alarmist, pessimistic, fear-mongering. The report says, pretty clearly:
130 million could be affected by this, 350+ transformers risking permanent damage in the event of a severe storm. That's roughly 1.9% of the world's population (using 01/07/08 census data)
Now, I am not saying that it is impossible that between 2011-2012 we will see a severe storm. But having said that NASA's report only mentions the year 2012 once saying that there is an attempt to increase sampling for the upcoming solar maximum.
So, let's start by punching holes in the theory of the apocalypse. If we assume that the figures included only represent Americans effected (which the report does not specify as far as I saw) Then you must also believe that these storms will effect an area of limited space (the examples used in the report seem to suggest that certain locations are effected more than others).
So using that logic we can safely assume that America is no more, or less, likely to be struck by the impending super-storm than any other geographical location as these things well be affected by position of the earth, tilt of the earth, etc.
What that ALSO should tell you is that a limited pocket of people will be effected. So what you would have to have is literally some kind of "world center" with. So, now not only does this have to happen in America, it has to effect a place of vital importance to everyone in the world.
So, the chances of it being "catastrophic" are in effect minimized if we believe that this will damage a limited geographical location. If we believe the opposite is true and that the entire world will be effected by once the fear becomes different:
Again it would have to be sheer luck for an apocalyptic event to happen. Conveniently major world centers for services, electricity, etc. must be effected by this storm. And again we will need to bring that 130 million people into the statistic again. If only 1.9% of the world's population is expected to be effected then we're still talking about limited damage in remote situations all across the world.
So really, whatever view you take, the damage will be limited. I'm not implying that disruptions aren't possible, nor am I saying they won't be costly. But the report's information is also saying that if we do nothing, these are the costs and the risks.
I find it difficult to believe that "developed" governments would allow a storm to significantly disrupt their communications, etc. without at least attempting to make some preparations. Since that is a security threat, and a disruption of business, no doubt preparations will be made. So, ultimately, the damage will be minimized to the developed world.
Much like with the y2k scare of 1999 a lot of good money and a strong (but temporary) economy will thrive on these fears and be paid to make adjustments to vital technology. If anything the fear could be an economic booster.
But I'm sure none of that crossed your mind, since you're only really interested in using your rhetorical skills to incite fear and panic using tools such as "UFO BLOG" (as if this is not somewhat of a giveaway about your character).
