The Mayan prophecy of 2012: we have a choice

Image
JanforGore
There is much being said about December 21, 2012 as the time when the world will end. I do not agree with this summation. I choose to believe it will be a time of great change bringing us to a new age. An age when materialism and the years we lost our way in our relationship with the natural world will give way to a more natural life. A time when we use the wisdom of those that came before us with the science of today to bring forth an age when humanity returns to its roots. As we see now events worldwide are leading up to that change. And it was not only the Mayans who foretold of these impending catastrophes leading up to a new awakening.

Nostradamus wrote many quatrains about what he envisioned for humans in these times. Regardless of what you may or may not believe about him or his predictions, for me they hold this warning as do the Mayan predictions: we as a civilization are now at a crossroads in a transformational period of consciousness. We are at the road that forks in two directions. We have two choices. We either can continue on the path we are on and face self destruction of our civilization as so many before us that did not heed the signs; or we heed the past, make preparations, change our ways, and see that new age of reformation.

Nothing about the future is written in stone. We as humans have always had a choice in our destiny. It is the choices we have made that have brought us to this point. I believe the years now leading up to 2012 will be ones of great turmoil and perhaps even darkness but how we take that, learn from it, and prepare for the future will determine either our ascension into saving ourselves, or our descension into the abyss. This is a unique time to live in and we are now the defining generation of a new age.

And while we cannot control natural occurences, we can limit our impact on this planet in order to help maintain its balance. Respect for this planet has never been more needed than it is now. It is that respect or lack of it that will ultimately decide our fate.

So what do you believe? Doomsday coming, or a chance to redeem mankind? The choice is ours.

    • The other notion: - the Mayans were wrong. They blew it entirely, their whole world ended a long time before their calendar. The end.

Just curious, How so, did they blow it? I know people have a lot of theories and there is disagreement. I personally don't believe the environment theory. I know that Spain did not really want their land, but did want the gold. Figures.

    • Years ago, I took Astronomy for the fun of it. It turned out to be a LOT of work and less fun. Like most people, its hard to fathom beyond the confines of Earth. East, West, North and South do not really exist. Everything is in degrees . I have a son who thinks that Earth pulls outside of orbit now and again. And, it may go back now and again.

This Teacher was so smart . On the first day of class, he drew a straight line on the chalk board and put an "X" almost at the end of the line. I will never forget what he said ""This is how long the world has existed (the larger portion of the line)...and this is how long Man has existed ( a tiny portion of the line). Then he states: "It is how we decide to live as a world community as to how long the human race as we know it will exist" but the earth, will remain."

Most people would just say "huh"? to most of this unfortunately. The world is made of "thinkers" and Plodders" I read. The plodders are not bad people, they just methodically live and work and maintain their own world without too much thinking about things beyond their world.

Ah, the thinkers. I am not sure we are a lucky lot. We probably have more worry and fear than we want to admit though we try very hard to be positive...it is a never ending challenge in this techno world where information is at our fingertips. The mind has to "filter" too much, scan too much, and weed out that which we aren't sure about, then try to adapt to what we learn and can apply. My husband is a plodder. Never missed a day of work, salt of the earth, rarely worries and has great compassion. But, in things we discuss here, he chooses not to think about. The "thinkers", esp abstract thinkers are burdened in a way.

btw, weren't the Mayans destroyed by the Spaniards? Seems like they were such an efficient society and yet, war did them in.

    • I feel sorry for anyone that believes this kind of thing. They are they same people who worry about special events being on Friday the 13th. Weak.

It will be just another day. Why wait another 2 years to make an important decision? If you feel your life needs a change, then make it now!

I don't understand the fascination with ancient societies that people think "had it all figured out" when we don't have a clue. The Mayans were advanced for their time, but were so primitive when it came to science and understanding the universe. To think they knew better than modern science or common sense is laughable. I don't mean to belittle them--they were people just like us, but they certainly lacked the knowledge that we have access to and have had time to comprehend.

I agree with your view to an extent however, the Mayans had much more time to study these type of things...ie they didn't have blogs, pda's, computer games, and wii's to eat up all of their focus...

The other issue is that views of the universe have shifted. The Mayans, like many other ancient civilizations (Egyptians) and some more modern ones (Greek, Roman), viewed the universe differently than we do today. There was a lifelike quality given to the stars. There were gods for everything. Humans were not viewed as the pinnacle of existence. Now, after Newton and Copernicus and the boom of science and math, which are used to explain and predict based upon measure (not to actually reveal truth, as science exists to disprove itself), more developed societies view the universe in an egocentric manner. I can't help but wonder if our fascination with science as a medium to "understand" the universe is just that.

Sure, we found patterns and ways to describe something, but these formulas don't necessarily reveal a why in terms of intent. We could observe a bullet in the air and ask, "why is that bullet traveling," only to come to a conclusion that the reactions in a gun barrel caused it to have so much force, angle, etc. for its course. Science does not tell us that the bullet, for instance, was fired by a man trying to kill an intruder. With this in mind, we could observe comets and explain that every so often, it will enter our solar system, but I feel the modern view of science is not wondering if there may be more than just a recurring pattern. Are humans and animals the only objects that do not behave based on coincidence. But with science, we have even begun explaining animal behavior as if there is no autonomy. In a way, science could be causing us to act in a primitive manner.

    • Every day the world ends, and when the sun rises, we are gifted a new world, a world in which we can shape and influence.

As in physics, the world reacts to every action. Our energies must be put to good use, whether for peace, environmental issues ore even catastrophic events as in solar storms or meteors heading for a direct hit on Earth, as it has in the past.

      For every action, a reaction.

Tomorrow, when you wake up, the world may seem the same----war, hunger, dishonest politicians, scam artists, financial crisis, unemployment. But the world is still churning ahead into the future.

And when you do wake up into this future, that will be your present, you have the power to make the future to what you want in the present that you are in.

They 'key' is knowing that we are all in this world together and that for mankind to survive, we must put in effort to live together despite our many differences.

Thanks for the thought inspiring post, jan

    • Great post Jan!

I love the discussion, even if it is not news, it is still thought provoking and entertaining.

I am not superstitious, so the year 2012 has no special meaning. However, I do believe that something has already begun to happen. Some have called it a raising of consciousness.

The exponential growth in technological ability has transformed the world. If we can survive the growing pains of the next century the world will be a fantastic place indeed, a world transformed and one we would be hard pressed to imagine.

Make no mistake, these times are particularly dangerous simply because of the technology. Technology coupled with religious superstition is the greatest threat. If we destroy ourselves the cause will be religious superstition. That is why I constantly speak out against religion, it is the most dangerous and destructive force on earth.

Nevertheless, all in all I am an optimist. I believe in my fellow human beings. I think we will be OK. I only hope I live a long time to see all the changes.

    • I'm all for your "change our lifestyle" view, but I guess I don't have enough faith in some of the Americans who are obsessed with materialism. For us to shift to a completely different paradigm in such a short amount of time is impossible. Perhaps in like another two or three hundred years or so (supposing the human species will live that long)...or after something so tragic happens, it shatters the world views of so many materialistic people.

I hope that humanity will change for the better, change happens slowly, but this world does need change. Materialism has gotten out of hand...Dubai is a great example

    • I always understood the 2012 prediction of change to be just that, change. Why does the prophecy have to be negative? Could change mean positive? And with all change, can it not be made to be either positive or negative? Is there not a positive and negative side to every choice?

Whether we try to lessen our impact as humans on the planet to help maintain a balance, a natural disaster can easily accomplish the "destruction of nature" much quicker (i.e. supervolcanoes, comets). Species and life have been wiped out on large masses before. Life has redeveloped to what it is now. In the long-term the cycle will occur again in either different or the same manner until the sun dies, explodes and destroys the planet. Will we survive as a species in another solar system or galaxy at that point in time? Is this the only universe? Why should we concern ourselves while no matter what we do as humans, nature and the cosmos will take their courses anyway?

And as the song Age of Aquarius goes:

      "Harmony and understanding
      Sympathy and trust abounding
      No more falsehoods or derisions
      Golden living dreams of visions
      Mystic crystal revelations
      And the mind's true liberation."

Old song that I like by a group called the Fifth Dimension. My birthday is in Aquarius too, so I'm empowered by that. ;-).

    • At the rate we're going, all of a then estimated population of over 7 billion people will be lucky to cross that date off their calendar. The way Mother Earth has responded with climate change, for example, may be enough proof to give this very intriguing theory serious consideration - whether we can do something or not. The real test will be the countdown over the next few years & how any major crisis will be handled. At least we've still got one more election!

Yes, that is if we stay on the current path. I'm really trying to be positive, but we certainly do know the outcome of the other scenario. I try to believe that humans wouldn't collectively decide to not heed the warnings, but as we have seen in history it's been done before.

    • Earths Hum

Scientists also know the Frequency Hum in the Earth is Rising. Our Earth Hum was a constant 7.8 Cycle frequency. we used that 7 cycle format for almost all communications since it is the Baseline.
In the Past few years, the Earth’s Hum is Changing. The Frequency is rising and has been recorded past 11 cycle format. Right now the Earth Raised about 4 solid cycles in frequency measurements.

      Earths Poles Flipping

Scientists believe this raise in Frequency goes directly hand and hand with the Poles getting ready to flip. That’s right, Earths Magnetic Properties are changing. The North Side Will Soon Point South, and South Will point North. The Earth Will Flip 120 degrees. Think I’m Crazy? Read what the respected Denver Post Published.

Scientists around the world are aware of this situation. You can find this information in University Websites, Lecture Notes, and Throughout Books and Publications all over. Nasa Publishes about Polar Flipping occurring in Stars, planets, and Solar bodies. Evidence even shows us that Earths Poles have flipped in the past. The last great pole flip occurred intimately 780,000 years ago.

This is also a known Fact and BBC News Offers

So-far We Covered the Change of frequency Vibrations given off by the Earth, The Great Polar Flip, The Super Rare Earth Venus Alignment, and The Extremely Accurate Mayan Calendar. Now to go cover how they all fit.

      Brain Frequency And Sine Waves

We know that Change in frequency affect the brains reception guidelines. In other words, If you use a frequency brain stimulation machine doctors can enhance, change, and alter a persons senses. If two frequencies are transmitted with a small gap between them, Like 400Hz and 410Hz The brain will even out the difference naturally make the brain produce a 3rd tone. This 3rd tone made by your brain is a pure Sine wave. The sine-wave will be a 10 Hz tone. Experimenting through the whole range of alpha and theta waves ( from 5 - 12 Hz) it was found that a combination of frequencies consistently caused a complete shift in consciousness. So when the Earths Frequencies finish their change, our senses and brain thought pattern will be seriously deformed. Our electrical body pulses that control every move your body makes, will adjust itself to the Earth.

    • But that's just it, they didn't predict an apocolypse where the world would end. That has been distorted. The world as we now know it regarding our current priorities may well end, hopefully ushering in a time when the materialism that led us away from cherishing our planet will be reversed. Some say it will be the alignment of the sun to the center of the galaxy and other catastrophes prior to it that may lead us to our epiphany. One can only hope. If we see it as an opportunity and not pass it up this time we can make it happen.

Then possibly, in the next life, if we happen over the same situations we may hesitate a little and choose differently and we'll get a second, third, or millionth chance until, humankind "gets it."

      That's just a thought.

that is what the New Age is about. It also appears that this shift is
resulting in the polarization of people into two different groups:
those calling for a higher level of consciousness based upon a
love-centered wholeness and sacredness to life and those who cannot

the mayans were one of the firsts to be able to calculate such things as the path and time that stuff took to move around up there in the sky, those with this knowledge (power) spread the hope of a better future far enough into it for them to continue certain productive traditions that those past masterminds thought needed to remain unchanged, examples aside, in the long long run, it did not work out for them

maybe what they were saying between the lines was that the choice is always present, that the brightness that comes from the sky has cycles means no more than oceans having cycles, it does influence our mood and physical structure to some extent, it does awake or modify certain things in our coded physical animal being, but most facts about the reality we create for ourselves will remain the same unless we actually make that commitment of a better future a real fact today and tomorrow

If you live in fear you will not be able to make the transition. We must become fearless on all levels. Happiness is here and now and heaven is all around us, we simply must open our eyes to see it.

Not through the lens of fear, but through the lens of love. Love is not just a biochemical reaction, there is an interplay of subatomic particles that connects all consciousness through love Love is the term we have used to call connectedness, togetherness, sacrifice for that connection, that intimacy, that camaraderie.

We need to get beyond words. Words can be so limiting because of semantics. We need to start thinking it is possible for us humans to be interconnected on a level that does not require words to communicate intentions. This is love.

    • The only doomsday I really see is the one we bring on ourselves. It is a constant source of frustration for me personally because we have the intelligence and resources to right the ship, we just... don't. Perhaps with the proliferation of information by means of the greatest invention of the last century, the internet, we will begin to see the sum total of our misdeeds and realize we need to walk down a different, more humane and sustainable path.

    • I don't buy doomsday prophecies, whether they are from the Mayans, Nostradamus or the Bible. I firmly believe that humans have the choice to lead ourselves to destruction or strive for utopia.

Things seem bad now, but don't they always? Doesn't every generation have it's "cross to bear", it's end-of-days prophets, it's tragedies? We can learn from our past mistakes and make the future better!
