Statistics prove prescription drugs are 16,400% more deadly than terrorists

Four commercial jets crashed that day. But what if six jumbo jets crashed every day in the United States, claiming the lives of 783,936 people every year? That would certainly qualify as a massive tragedy, wouldn't it?

Well, forget "what if." The tragedy is happening right now. Over 750,000 people actually do die in the United States every year, although not from plane crashes. They die from something far more common and rarely perceived by the public as dangerous: modern medicine.

According to the groundbreaking 2003 medical report Death by Medicine, by Drs. Gary Null, Carolyn Dean, Martin Feldman, Debora Rasio and Dorothy Smith, 783,936 people in the United States die every year from conventional medicine mistakes. That's the equivalent of six jumbo jet crashes a day for an entire year. But where is the media attention for this tragedy? Where is the government support for stopping these medical mistakes before they happen?

    • The whole human substance intake structure in society is out of whack. A banana contains chemicals inside of it to lift your mood just as does zanex. Don't mistake my words IT IS NOT THE SAME. However, putting a substance into your body will always modify your homeostasis.

Drugs are almost always created from an original organic compound which comprises the active ingredient. Just as we have informative labels on foods and an abundance of information on these contents, we should have the same on the labels of drugs over the counter and prescription.

Furthermore, we should ideally have a label on everything made for consumption and an accompanying government sponsored, widely accessible (physically & intellectually) database on all major chemical components of products for consumption. Of course for this, we would have to legalize and regulate all substances.

Legalization and regulation of all substances is a large step for our civilization at this point, but in practice, benefits the welfare of all those affected. It means that all drugs that should be out of the hands of kids won't be sold to them. Do you think that today's meth dealer cares how old a customer is? No. We should have alcohol right next to it on the shelf with a list of active ingredients and scale of addiction.

Organized crime makes huge bucks from being the only organized producers of the various illegal substances. They put those big bucks into the pockets of politicians to keep the law structure the way it is. The same goes for pharmaceutical companies. If their products were laid out flat, they would loose money from customers who would realize how dangerous their products could be. So the money keeps flowing and things stay the same.

If all products for consumption were available to the public with their pro's and con's laid out flat, our way of life would be forever improved.

    • Statistics say that statistics are made up 50% of the time...
witch means this article and this fact(the fact I wrote above) has a 50% chance of being true...

    • exactly...the sad thing is this has been going on for years. I wanna share a couple of quotes from "A People's History of The United States". If you haven't had a chance to read it I suggest you do.

This one is from a People's Party convention in 1890...

"Wall Street owns the country. It is no longer a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, but a government of Wall Street, by Wall Street and for Wall Street. . ."

Here's part of the preamble from the People's party national convention, written and read by Ignatius Donnelly in 1892...

"We meet in the midst of a nation brought to the verge of moral, political and material ruin. Corruption dominates the ballot box, the legislatures, the Congress, and touches eve the ermine of the bench. The people are demoralized. . .The newspapers are subsidized or muzzled; public opinion silenced; business prostrate, our homes covered with mortgages, labor impoverished, and the land concentrating in the hands of capitalists. . .The fruits of the toil of millions are boldly stolen to build up colossal fortunes. . .From the same prolific womb of governmental injustice we breed two classes - paupers and millionaires. . ."

reading these quotes (amongst others in the book) made me feel like we're in the matrix and it just reboots every so often.

How much of the taxpayers money is being spent to fight "terrorism", which is a made up fantasy anyways, compared to the amount of taxpayers money being spent on health and medicinal research in this nation?

It's only a stupid comparison if you don't understand it. Talk about being brainwashed, huh? You feel a lot safer and healthier now that Big Brother is fighting the terrorist for you, right?

    • many in our society have been conditioned to believe that for any problem in your life, there is a magic pill that will fix it. and that is really depressing to me. people will continue to poison themselves with excessive sugars and bad diets and hormone injected beef and a complete lack of exercise and continue to search for a pill for their problems.

pills treat the symptoms, not the causes.

pharmaceutical companies are only interested in turning a profit, they have no regard for the health of the people and/or curing anything.

I sincerely hope this doesn't come across as nip picking, because nearly all my posts on Current are in defense of logic and rational thinking, not any particular politics, but I really hope you understand the value of independent study. Linking to conspiracy laden reports from organic groups isn't convincing.

I can link to plenty of websites that say ear candling is beneficial, but that is obviously hokum.

There is no proof (yet). It is great that you are going the seemingly safe route, but let's not brow beat Americans from waiting until something, anything can be proven.

    • western medicine has extented our life expectancy. the older our population become the greater the risk of death for any reason. anything we put into our bodies can kill us. drinking too much water can kill you. when we want cures for human illnesses we risk other problems. we have to decide what is the best answer. Doctors are human they cannot know everything about every dynamic aspect of medicine at any given moment. Find a doctor and a pharmacist you trust. read books not written and printed for drug companies. Lead as healthy a life as you can. Moderation. I had surgery several years ago, the surgery was succesful but I had a reaction to latex and could have died. Who's fault would that have been? For instance if I run out and buy the newest tech gadget as soon as it hits the market are all the "bugs" worked out yet? Even the FDA can"t prevent possible problems no matter how much testing they do. Insurance co. and attys. are counting on mistakes. become involved in the decisions you make.

    • Wow. This is some hysterical ass motherfuckin bullshit. First off, how is a 2003 report count as a "current event?"

Second, as Zaffo pointed out we are talking about a entire nation, some of whom are extremely unhealthy or just old (and notably have reached that age as a consequence of western medicine) and every year a number of these people die from "medical mistakes" which is not synonymous with "prescription drugs". It could have been a botched surgery, it could have been an overlooked infection, a misdiagnosis or yes, a bad drug interaction. But given the number of people receiving care vs. the number of terrorists operating it's weird to say that "prescription drugs are more deadly" that's like saying carrots are more deadly than atom bombs because more people have died from choking on carrots.

Of course the prescription drug companies are unscrupulous monsters just like any other large corporation but to condemn western medicine which has notably made "death from childbirth" a thing of the past is some thoughtless and superficial behavior.

Illegal marijuana deamed extremely dangerous by the FDA and DEA: O deaths per year.

    • Nobody is forcing you to take prescription pills, just like nobody is forcing you to go to the doctor in the first place. You're asking for a cure-all with a 100% success rate in a nation of already vastly unhealthy people. It's not like doctors are hiding the real cure while feeding you salt tablets, believe it or not, the vast majority of the people in the health industry would rather have you alive than dead.

Right, because it would be super easy to cure cancer, HIV and diabetes if we just had a few scientists calm down with the boner pills and work on those for awhile.

Oh wait, those three are THE TOP THREE STUDIED DISEASES IN THE WORLD. Even if you think about it in the most diabolical, corrupt sense, the scientists who discovered a cure to any of those diseases, followed shortly by the drug company that released it, would make BILLIONS.

The only thing holding back a cure to diabetes, cancer and HIV is the fact that they are incredibly difficult to understand and treat, not that some corrupt villain doesn't want you to have it.

Good point - I was going to say the same thing. In fact, the CEO's of Monsanto have consistently served on the FDA board for years now... Revolving door politics will always overlook the little man. Check out a documentary by the name of "the Future of Food" to learn more about this issue, if you're interested.

    • Yes, you are correct!
Here is the cesspool of evidence where people like myself go to record and research side effects in a Data base called:
      http://askapatient.com.
I wonder why this is not reported in US news.

      This is hidden from us.
Obama should fund this..I don't know if he will..I haven't heard any dismay on this problem.
This problem is exacerbated by the Direct to Consumer Drug Advertising problems.
This is banned in most other countries.

Drug companies wouldn't want you to know that, they want you to keep buying these drugs, rely on them, depend on them.

      Tragically a very sad number.
