Wonder what they will do with the land while they have it? I think a community food-garden could bolster more local interest for securing it longer (from compulsory sale) and awareness in general. Good for the locals, good for the land, good for awareness, good for encouraging love, wellbeing, and peace in general, no?

Meanwhile, the government has given Heathrow the go-ahead on its plans for the third runway. Boo.

Tim Dechristopher did the same thing in Utah when he bid in an auction and "bought" land that was about to be drilled (with no money in hand). It's an inspirational story of how one person found a creative means to protect the land he cared for. He just raised 45K to cover one of the leases.

Great, ditto abbym0308 - they need to play this like a game of chess. Kick up more dollar and but more runways. No moaning.

Why can't we all pool our money together and buy out coal companies and turn them into alternate energy plants? Or even getting together in groups throughout the world to buy up stock of certain companies to control a majority share? I wish we could do that to Monsanto :).

I figure since they all use our money to destroy the planet, we can use it to beat them at their own game and build it back up. I would love to see the tables turned on them.

fantastic idea.... a facebook group would get the message to thousands at the least, potentially millions of people.

Really. Look at all of the millions the Internet supposedly raised for the presidential campaign which was wasted on advertising and polls. Imagine raising that much to actually buy ownership in one of these companies and kicking them out. I love it.

That's great! It's good to see this kind of active protest, rather than a bunch of people standing around screaming about doing something to stop the runway.

This is the way to work, not asking government itself to expropriate lands which are going to be used. Just buy them, so govt doesn't have to use coercion. In fact, plant some trees :D

Go Greenpeace!
And I first read that as "An environmental coalition led by Greenpeace has thrown a *monkey* into expansion plans for London's chronically congested Heathrow Airport." best image ever.
