Blondes 'to die out in 200 years'

Image
sargeant_sick
I stumbled across this article after doing some research on blondes in the UK.

My friend just got back and was miffed at all the bottle blondes. Not that he cares either way, but he commented that there are a lot of artificial self enhancements going on there.... specifically blonde hair out of the bottle.

"A study by experts in Germany suggests people with blonde hair are an endangered species and will become extinct by 2202......The researchers also believe that so-called bottle blondes may be to blame for the demise of their natural rivals. "

    • lol Better late then never, I'm referring to my reply and not Blondes dying out.

200 years "they" say huh? I say humans won't be around this long. And we won't be living in space or on some other planet either, unless aliens come make nice with us heathens and neanderthals, our race, the human race, will not make it off this chunk of rock alive. I would guess redheads would go extinct before blondes. But this is just a stupid subject and I've already spent too much time here.

    • only one in 20 humans are born naturally blond. of these only a quarter retain the blond 'neoteny' traits into adulthood.

they're not going extinct, they're too 'popular' and that alone is all it takes to continue the genes.

    • the study found that bottle blonds are to blame for the demise of natural blonds? there is a very agreeable symmetry to that.

come on, it'd be interesting if it was true. we don't have to prioritize every story in order of societal importance... and if there's going to be some diversion, may as well be edifying also...

yes, my family is of Polish decent, we are also Jewish, my hair did turn curly, my brother & nephew too, they started out in life as blondes also. I went back to natural, (blonde). We are the 'good jewish', not the war enducing ones, so noone be haters here, okay? we are peace & love mellow 'American Jews'.
Wow, they should have a TV show for us, ha ha, then people may not hate us so much, a bit of damage control, seriously!

This is a very common phenomenon amongst Northern European peoples, especially ones living around the Baltic coast. I have had Finns, Balts, Poles and Germans all mention to me about this happening in their families.

Hmmm, just think, maybe the two of you have some of those awful Aryan or Finno-Ugric genes floating around in your background. Wouldn't want that now, would we?

oh, i do. i'm half scottish more or less, but i tend to identify as jewish the way obama identifies as black. don't know why. maybe because i can get away with saying things that might come across as anti-semitic otherwise. ethnic privilege.

    • I just think it's funny how there are so many people that are testifying that blondes will never cease to exst because of their personal situation...being that they were born with blonde hair, yet one or both of their parents had dark hair....They still havent come to face witht he fact that it's a whole lot simpler, lol, their mom probably just had a thing for blonde dudes (affair).

    • Personally, I like redheads :D

Their much rarer though. I wonder how long before redheads become extinct. I'll tell my ex she's critically endangered.

That doesn't seem to make much difference does it?

It still gets comments and ratings to generate traffic and revenue for the site.

So it being true or false isn't very relevant to that as long as it is sensational enough to be popular

So much for any attempt at fact checking or any hint of responsible journalism by the people that published that story or those that keep spreading it around eh?

I guess it's passe to be accurate when there are ratings involved and everyone in all facets of the media wants to have the top story.

    • Being blonde, I've decided to procreate with only other blondes, in hopes of fathering seven blonde children.

That'll extend our reign by at least a few more years!

    • it'd be nice if people would just embrace their natural features. not that dying is a big deal, but it's sort of indicative of people's general inauthenticity these days.

and then if you don't engineer every aspect of your appearance, if you don't shave and pluck and dye and comb, you're dismissed as some slovenly hippie. we need a mammalian pride day.

    • He's obviously never been to California since there is a prevalence of blondes here.

I went to school with a high percentage of natural blondes and they've all had familes to pass their genes onto

All my sisters are blondes and they are are passing the genes on to the descendants in my family.

    • I've read other articles saying things like 2% of the worlds population has natural blonde hair, but to say natural blonde people will die out is hard for me to swallow. My father has black hair brown eyes and a year round tan... my mom has brown hair and hazel eyes, and when she was pregnant with me she was expecting a dark baby, but I popped out with green eyes and blond hair (which is not so "baby blond" but darker now). Somewhere along the way I got some genes from some long gone relatives. So I guess what I'm saying is genes can be dormant, but there is always a possibility that something you weren't expecting is coming your way.

    • I highly doubt that blondes will "die out" ....recessive traits always find a way to come through.

my mom and dad both have dark brown hair....I have copper blonde hair (used to be very light but living in sunless san francisco has made it a little less blonde over the years)

my mom has brown eyes (dominant) my dad has hazel...I have blueish green eyes.

Im definitely not the milk mans daughter, I just managed to channel the genetic traits of my grandpa and great aunt. The article says that in order to be blonde your granparents on both sides have to be blonde...only my grandpa on my dad's side was blonde and aside from my aunt I dont know of any blondes on my mom's side. So according to this article I shouldnt be blonde...but somehow I am.

    • Humm... evolution....

There's sure a lot of studies done on hair color...I read a study a few years ago that suggested blonds were preferred because it subconsciously seems cleanly. I wonder if that was ever substantiated. I actually find myself being attracted to darker haired men (like Don Draper and Obamas speech writer).

I also wonder just how accurate these studies can be due to the fact that no girl wants to admit their hair color isn't natural....

    • Everyone is wrong in this article. Even the guy who disputes that blondes will die out is wrong. Look at genetic disorders! They are more rare, but they certainly don't die out, even though they present a "disadvantage". There has to be a lot of intentionality in order to really weed something out.

    • achromatic:

thats because we keep the disorderly genes alive with modern medicine, so they're passed on to future generations even more and are allowed to grow old with the people that have them.
we also provoke some of the genes by living unhealthily.

wow unlocked, what a compelling statement, sorry if you are frustrated with facts and truth and all that jazz, I've been there.

advertisehere - the type i have doesn't really require modern medicine to keep me alive, though the ADA has made my life much easier than it would have been 50 years ago.

    • You can tell when someone has real blonde hair. I was born with blonde hair and people today comment on how good my hilights look. I have a hard time telling them i dont have hilights. Blonde hair has become a fashion statement, espcially bleach blonde hair.

They suggest that dyed-blondes are more attractive to men who choose them as partners over true blondes."

Hmm...I guess I'd never thought about that before.

      Great find.

    • As a rare true-blond (rare in the US), strawberry blond no less (even rarer), AND I'm a man (even rarer), something about 'bottle' blonds gets to me. I just shout in my mind: faker!

Anyway, as far as women/men dying their hair blond, that has been going on since pre-viking times in northern Europe. It was seen as more desirable -for both men and women- to have blond hair, so they dyed it with lime.

If it is indeed to die out it is as it's a recessive trait, in my opinion.
