STOP EATING CORPORATE FOOD FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR ANIMALS AND PETS. I categorize all canned , boxed, packaged food that you pick off the shelves and easy to eat or serve as corporate food. STOP BEING LAZY & START LEARNING TO COOK FROM SCRATCH and SEE WHAT BECOMES.
I believe that Packaged Dog/Cat food is a major contributor for ailments for animals. Do you know what goes inside the pet foods and why they all stink horrible. Well try this. Take a tour of a pet food factory and try to bear the smell and see if you can survive. Ask them what goes into making dog food pellets and chicken feed and other stuff .... You will never eat chicken or feed that shitty animal food to your pets. What did your grand parents feed their pets ??? Was there pet food companies there at that time ?? Go back to basics... - 3 years ago

I have 2 older dogs. Their metabolism has changed over the years. If I fed one of them as little as it takes to keep her weight down, she would probably turn mean, due to the fact she would be so hungry.
Diet doggy food sounds funny, but I put her on one, she gets to eat more food, and she is healthier because her weight is now where it should be.LouderSilence,
I do have 2 fat cats. But only because one is feral, lives outside, and it is winter, (he looks like a football with feet) and the other because he spends so much time outside, even in winter.
Each summer they slim down nicely. - 3 years ago

xD!!! Really? I know a fat chocolate lab...she rolls around like a sausage. She's old though. Dog's have metabolisms just like humans. If their not active, their going to get fat. OMG PEOPLE!!! My Grandmother's two little dogs are FAT!!!
It's not because dogs over eat... Have you ever seen a fat cat? I see them all the time. Really people.... their animals!!!!

^^^ In response to the first comment, this took place in England, not the US. It is not "tragic" that diet dog food exists because if you think of how dogs live, most often in close quarters with humans and with very little exercise, it is normal that they need the same things that we do. We domesticated dogs and therefore are responsible for their diet, exercise, and general health, just like other humans, albeit to a lesser degree.
These organizations were developed in order to protect the welfare of domestic animals, however the RSPCA seems to be generalizing a little too much on this case.
Actions like these are what make animal protection agencies seem illegitimate, they should use more discretion when removing animals from their owner's possession. The woman was obviously making an effort to get their weight back down. Jail time for making one's dogs overweight seems completely ridiculous to me. And a ban on having animals? Please.
The fact that the vet called the police before calling the owner is absurd. We are all adults and can handle things without a form of authority.**If making an animal overweight is grounds to take it out of the owner's care, should the same be done to parents who have overweight children?***

If you look around the US...there are fat dogs here too.
Oh, No...I stand by the statement that diet dog food is tragic. Also the fact that there are two isles in the grocery store with which to choose any number of dog foods.
If pet owners were acting in a responsible manner towards their pets they would be taking their diet, exercise and general health into consideration. Considering that 60% of the human population is over weight, however, it's clear that we're having a hard time with our own health.
Now to comment on the RSPCA...Was what they did necessary? Probably not. They are there for the welfare of the animal, though.

I always imagine what people going without food in other countries must think of Americans and their pets. The fact that diet dog food even exists is tragic.
