Hemp plant was considered an "angel" or messenger of the gods

Knowledge and use of the sacred cannabis Tree of Life predates the oldest deciphered written records. The Hindus of India took this knowledge with them when they left the Hindu Kush mountains. The traditions continued with the ancient Egyptians, the Zoroastrians ( Persia revered cannabis, the white Haoma, along with the Tree of All Seed. The Scythians, enigmatic Magi of the North, and their trading partners the Thracians, spread this information throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. (page 422)
Perhaps, as Dr. Aldrich seems to suggest, our quest to partake in the cannabis Tree of Life unmolested, is the same story that has been told since Gilgamesh found and lost the flower of eternity over five thousand years ago. Perhaps it is the same story depicted on the Scythian carpet found with two censers containing burnt cannabis residues, which has the repeated design of a horseman approaching the Great goddess who holds the Tree of Life in one hand. Perhaps it is the same story as that of Parzifal's Quest for the Holy Grail.

ADVANCES HEMP HAS TO THE US ECONOMY:
(1.) 1 acre of hemp will produce as much fiber as 2 to 3 acres of cotton. Hemp fiber is softer, warmer, stronger, and more water absorbent than cotton, and lasts twice as long as cotton. Hemp is naturally hardy and drought tolerant and grows well without herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Twenty-five percent of all the pesticides used in the U.S. are applied to cotton.
(2.) 1 acre of hemp will produce as much paper as 2 to 4 acres of trees. Trees take hundreds of years to grow and hemp only takes 4 months to grow. We just found a solution to saving the trees! Hemp paper can be recycled 7 times, wood pulp 4 times.
(3.) Hemp seed oil can be used to produce non-toxic diesel fuel, paint, varnish, detergent, ink and lubricating oil. We just found a solution to use alternative fuels for cars rather than being defendant on oil! (Or fossil fuels) HEMP ETHANOL! Here's Vanguard Video on Ethanol: http://current.com/items/89110290/food_fight.htm
(4.) Hemp seed is nutritious and contains more essential fatty acids than any other source. Soybeans come in second place. Hemp seed is not psychoactive and cannot be used as a drug because THC levels are too low to get high! Hemp is not marijuana.
(5.) Hemp fiber can produce cars. Over two million cars on the road today have hemp composite parts for door panels, dashboards, luggage racks, etc. They are doing it in Germany for Mercedes and BMW.
FACT: Hemp is Earth's number-one biomass resource. IT IS A BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY and would stimulus the economy and generate jobs in a massive way!
Marijuana FACT:
-Deaths from marijuana use: 0
-Deaths from aspirin (U.S. per year): 180 - 1,000 +
-Deaths from legal drugs (U.S. per year) at doses used for prevention, diagnosis, or therapy: 106,000Why not legalize marijuana? Why not use it as a medical use nationwide? It would be no diferen't for alcohol use. The harmless drug would hurt the black market. It would save tax dollars from nonviolence offenders. THE DEA SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON THE REAL HARSH DRUGS LIKE COCAINE AND HEROIN RATHER THAN HARMLESS MARIJUANA WHICH CAN BE USED AS A NATURAL RESOURCE OF MEDICINE.

i agree with most peoples responses on here. I was arrested for possesion and the didt find anything on me it was in my friends car i happened to be driving. The police completly wasted their time taking me downtown when they could have been busting a real criminal.
Its time to realize that just like the prohabition days, saying no to Americans will make us do whatever you dont like plus more. The laws need to be rethought

Nurse Diesel,
Read Jack Herer's book "The Emporor Wears No Clothes" OR Watch the new movie called "The Union: The Business Behind Getting High"
DuPont had just patented several processes for creating synthetic fibers like polyester and vinyl. At the same time a machine had been invented that could process hemp better than ever before, creating fabrics that where as soft as cotton products, but would last ten times as long. ALSO, hemp products where being developed for use as paint bases, while DuPont saw that as another direct threat to their synthetic paints.
William Hearst was a newspaper tycoon who used his papers to spread yellow journalism (propaganda) to the public. Most likely he was paid money and given other means of reward for assisting the various industries like DuPont, in eliminating cannabis hemp from competition with their products.

I really enjoyed that Jubal. THANKS !!
Seems like almost every day now somebody is coming up with a piece of esoteric information about cannabis I'd never heard of before. I enjoy an association with the weed that spans 40 years but actual participation has been off & on. Surprise, surprise. You can actually quit if you want to. I went through a period where I didn't smoke at all; more 10 years worth. Try that number with alcohol. But I digress.
I think most everybody has heard the psalm that starts, "The Lord is my shepherd..." In the middle of that the verse includes "anointed my head with oil". I always wondered about that.
I mean what kind of oil would you put on your head? And why would this procedure be mentioned in the bible rather than a skit by the 3 stooges? Obviously at one point there was meaning to this or it wouldn't be included there.
In my time I've seen & smoked hash oil. A potent sucker; that one. Pass that pipe around and the room starts sounding like a tuberculous ward. But I can't visualize putting it on my head. That would turn you into an original greaser. Folks could smell you coming from a block away.
You'd probably have to use a turpentine rinse to get it out.So I guess my question is whether it's possible that cannabis oil was the reference in the bible quote? During that period of history there were a number of oils or "essence" used. Is this one? Truly, I don't know. But it's interesting.
Anybody done more reading on this than I?

I know that hemp seed oil was commonly used for lanterns.
As far as topical applications with cannabis, it would either be an oil based tincture (extract), or a poultice for medicinal means. I suppose hash oil could also be applied topically... but that's basically the same thing as an oil-based tincture.
Plain hemp seed oil could certainly be used for moisturizing (probably an important thing in the region), they use it in all sorts of hygienic products now; lip balm, lotion, hair gel, shampoo ect.
If cannabis was in fact considered a holy plant, I could see them making such references to plain hemp seed oil. After all, it is the plant of many uses. A gift from God according to the Maggi (wise men).

To those who say they're tired of seeing this topic on Current because they think it's just a bunch of hippies who want to get high:
Well you clearly don't understand that this battle isn't, by far, only for the ability for a minority to get stoned without fear of arrest.
This is about safe and effective medicine, clean renewable resources, ending the violence at the Mexican border, greatly reducing the power and profits of criminal organizations, generating BILLIONS of tax revenue, creating millions of new jobs, stimulating the farming industry, increasing availability of healthy hemp seed foods, ending the global oppression and misinformation campaign against cannabis and hemp, offering a viable means of cleaning toxic land-spills, possibly finding a cure for cancer and other horrible diseases, and on and on and on...
What I'm tired of is people who want to just disregard the push for ending prohibition as just a bunch of hippies who want to get high. We already get high, what we're fighting for is JUSTICE AND A BETTER FUTURE FOR ALL!!!!
Perhaps we need to widen our platform though. Current does seem to have a good majority of people who agree with ending prohibition. If everyone agrees then who is enlightened? Although I would hope that what we post on here gets posted other places as well by people who like what they see. This is why it's important to share these videos. Post them on MySpace, Facebook, where ever there are people who need to be confronted with truth, that is where we need to be putting this information!
Anyone know of any other good social news sites like Current??

sim, that's a good question. While I don't know the answer to it, I do know of a place where one could start the search.
We all know the vast resources available on the web. We also know search engines gather the results of our query. But most folks don't know a lot about search engines themselves. No one of them delivers everything - even the major ones. There's simply too much.
Meta crawlers are being explored now. I won't go into all of that save that if you learn how to use one of these you can end up with a lot different data. Here's one you might try: SurfWax - http://www.surfwax.com/
This engine will help you refine your search. It's neat.

Here's my recent rant... what you think?
I have been waiting 12 years for things to change. Ever since I started smoking it, I've have known the truth about how harmless cannabis is (and that they lied to me in DARE). Over the years I have learned a multitude of reasons why it's illegal [money, greed, racism, power, corruption] as well as why it really shouldn't be.
You may think this isn't an important issue and that we've got bigger things to deal with, but I disagree with you. The implications of prohibition are far reaching and profoundly unjust especially in the case of cannabis.
Back in 2001 I ended up locked in jail with murderers and meth addicts for three fucking months, humiliated by having to piss in front of a cop, repeatedly strip searched and handcuffed like I was some kind of animal. In total I lost possession of about two years of my life and thousands of dollars.. what was my offense? I sold a $10 sack to a kid wearing a wire, what I saw at the time and still do see as a victimless crime of a tiny magnitude. I mean 1.3 grams of some harmless herb and I lost all my rights, was labeled a felon and went through hell personally and with my family members.
Is this justice? I was certainly no criminal. I was your average 20 year old, 2 years out of high school and attending a full time machinist program at the local tech center, which I finished shortly before jail. I had overwhelming support in the form of letters of character reference from everyone including my principle and you know what they told me? "We think [simplecj] needs to realize the seriousness of what he's done. We recommend 90 days jail time, up to 3 years probation with weekly piss tests, completion of out-patient drug rehabilitation, plus $1000 fine and restitution.
SO, now I'm a 28 year old who regularly smokes (since the day I got my termination papers), I'm happily married and about to graduate from 6 years in the engineering program at my local university with a 3.45 GPA (one of the highest in my class).
I was a virtual POW in this pointless war and I'm really pissed off that it continues to happen to hundreds of thousands of people every year despite the mountain of evidence that not only vindicates cannabis as a recreational substance, but goes much much farther in praising the plant for it huge varieties of uses; from medicine to fuel for our cars, healthy foods, durable clothing, building material... the list just goes on and on.
IT'S TIME FOR THE INSANITY TO STOP!!
We need to end prohibition just as Nixon's Shafer Commission recommended back in 1972. The injustice and ignorance has become disgusting and saying this isn't an important issue is outright insulting to anyone who knows the hardships good people have gone through because of our draconian laws.
This travesty goes way beyond our borders and is actually been aiding in the oppression and persecution of many people around the globe. We've set the example of being "hard" on drugs and have expected other nations to follow suit, and most of them have... enough is enough! Prohibition of cannabis does not work and should actually be considered a crime against humanity, It's time to restore the staple crop of civilizations from ancient China to the early United States, we need it now more than ever!!

No doubt herbs is so good for everything as our history shows. Didn't Nixon's Shafer Commission in 1972 conclude there was nothing wrong with marijuana? Then why have so many people been convicted of something harmless? No doubt time for a change. So come on over and hear the sounds of our other feel good smash hit sing along song of the summer 'Legalize Weed' by moonshine and herbs

For us music is a great and powerful medium, in fact its pretty much all that we have on this side. I appreciate your apology but it is unnecessary. When we all come together. We win. As far as im concerned with the conclusion of Nixon's Shafer Commission, all persons who have been arrested for a small amount of herb for personal use and have had there records tarnished should be pardoned. It should have never been made illegal to begin with. Who are these guys that continue to support terrorizing innocent people? crooks, plain and simple

Finally an interesting study of the infamous "Weed" banned in many societies.
Take the profit out of it and legalize it.
Then our police can spend some time on real crime instead of busting so many people for possession or use of marjuiana.
Side effect is the drug lords will go broke like the rest of us in America in this recession.
Those drug peddlers would like to see whine for once.
At the very least make medical marijuana a reality in all 50 states in the good old USA.
