I bet this technology received NO cash from the stimulus package (what a joke).

Imagine if they received a BILLION dollars to develop this.... But why would we pay to save the planet when Execs need bonuses?

Even if algae isn't the ultimate solution to help us clean up the planet, it's a good start after hearing about how many different researchers around the world are exploring its potential & learning how complex this apparent simple organism really is.

Didn't Edison find thousands of ways how not to make a light bulb work until finally trying a simple carbon element that proved artificial light could be created? But maybe not the best example because so many of his wonderful 1000+ inventions used electricity, ironically contributing to the mess we're in today.

Wow what a bunch of pessimists we have here. heres just a few rebukes for those of you unbelievers, VertiGrow algae productions can produce 100,000 gallons of Bio-Fuel per acre per year and since they designed it for indoor cultivation ie. Vertical Farming, then a 50 story building 1.5 acres square will produce 1,000,000 gal of Bio-Fuel per year. Now imagine a fleet of these buildings constructed around the country so as to reduce the amount of fuel necessary to transport it to different fuel stations. So I would say this tech is more than sufficient to solve our fuel problem and the competition between Bio-Fuels and food growth acreage. Google VertiGrow if you want to check my stats on production. As for the CO2 scrubbing algae again don't be so small minded, no spreading this over every water surface in the world would probably not reduce CO2 and other green house gases from the atmosphere in our life times, but if we manufactured a way to place this algae into filter systems for anything which produced green house and CO2 then I Imagine they might have a truly beneficial effect on our global warming issue. All of you here need to start thinking bigger and out side this 20th century box you seem trapped in because those limits have been removed by this 21st century science and if we a are really committed to making a better world then we need to stop thinking in terms of this or that as being impossible.

I'm sure they help, but we can't all sit around and wait for algae to do the job we should have started by now.

Everybody needs to stop cleaning their pools. Come on people, let's start algae farming!!! Wait a minute. Did the scientists say how long it took for the algae to clean up the atmosphere those millions of years ago? Gosh, I hope there are humans left on Earth at that point.

I wish this the best but we will run out of oil long before algae can produce enough biofuel to do anything more than run the researchers prius.
