5,000 Gallons Of Raw Sewage Discharged From Navy Ship

The Navy's USS Port Royal discharged about 5,000 gallons of raw sewage into the ocean over the weekend and the state health department said it was never notified about the release.

The State Health Department advised the public to stay out of the water fronting the reef runway between the Keehi Channel to the Pearl Harbor Channel.

The advisory comes after the health department's clean water branch confirmed Tuesday the Port Royal had released thousands of gallons of raw sewage into the ocean.

Have this been a commercial company this would have never gotten overseen.

    • this is rediculus. no matter how much we try to be green and cut back on pollution, there's always someone else who does it a little more. one day we might realize that all these warnings are serious, we are hurting the earth. but you can't tell the government that. like that Nixon/Frost interview line, "When the president does it, it's not illegal!" I really hope no one swims in that area, because that would be stomach turning to come up and see babe ruth bars floating all around you

      Are they serious? The timing doesnt matter! They are still polluting the ocean and it is still going to harm other wildlife. Not to mention they might have just destroyed a reef in the process by running aground. I mean, maybe they had no options but Im still a bit peeved that they downplayed the possible harm they caused. Not to mention the NASTINESS of it.
