Powershift '09

leahl
I'm sitting here in the media room of Powershift '09. It's a place to eddy out from the masses (11,000 so they say). The conference is swarming with inspired people wanting to address climate change. I've been surrounded by legendary activists of all generations, eco celebs, new media organizers (the amount of people developing new technology tools that assist organizers is nothing short of amazing), and 1,000's who are dedicated and fired up to learn about how to mobilize the masses to take action on climate change. In case you're snickering at that last comment, you are rightful to do so, I've been kanoodled, I'm starstruck, and I am drinking the coolaid. I think this conference is the best thing since sliced bread. Forgive me. It's been an inspiring experience to witness this conference, and to hear the stories of the people who feel called to be here (some of which are confronting dire environmental issues in their front yard). It's been a lesson in seeing the solidarity that comes with meeting people from around the world who are all dedicated to the same cause.

I've been working my best to get you all short videos so you can see for yourself the vibrancy and energy that is occurring here. Current is following a young crew from Kentucky who is lobbying on mountain top removal, a group from Hawaii who is examining spiritual issues, and group from the Black Rock Navajo Reservation addressing water issues, John Warnow of 350.org, and more. Sadly: The connection at the conference center is...less than desireable, and doesn't allow me to upload this video. But in a few moments I am going to interview a few folks and let them speak for themselves about why they are here, and what they expect to accomplish. If you have questions..ideas...comments...you know where to put them.
