"We are all connected by our need for water. We all fear thirst, and we all fear that our children will be thirsty," Michael Blackstock, a naturalist of First Nations descent, said Friday at a session on water and culture.

We are taxed for water. We pay for water coming into our homes and for it leaving our homes. We pay taxes on this use.
Water is a need like food. Without food or water a human will die. - 3 years ago

Are you saying that we shouldn't have to pay for water? Well, each person has the right to choose, I guess. Turn off your water service and truck it in yourself from - uh, the Colorado River? Then, of course, you'll have to build yourself a treatment system. I bet people would become extremely aware of the need to conserve under such circumstances!

concerning the article itself... its frightening that so much politics is surrounding water discussion. When the argument over a 'right' v. a 'need' is so pertinent, its only setting the stage for water wars that are going to cause a lot of people harm.

Dude, not everyone has been thirsty. In fact i'd have to say most of us have never known real thirst. We may be parched, or have some serious cotton mouth but thats nothing a trip to the sink cant fix.
Real thirst comes from water rations. When dehydration is literally a drop of water away. What people in developed countries need to begin to appreciate is that we wash dirty dishes in drinking quality water. We flush toilets with water fit for human consumption. I watched a man wash his driveway for about 20 minutes with drinking water pouring from his hose.
We waste so badly what others need. Its gross.

Anyone who has ever been thirsty, and I believe that includes everyone, should have a reveberating yes to this question. Not only is quencing our thirst involved, but the mere survival of plant and animal life, from wench we thrive. It is a dire need, and should be more appreciated, and delicately preserved, not only for ourselves, but future generations. Too often it is carelessly misused, and taken for granted. I'm not sure you should be charged for it's use...perhaps taxed??
