    • Give yourself a pat on the back. Sounds like you live a densely populated urban area. That tends to keep your carbon footprint down. You can find many sites now to measure your footprint. As Jamyi suggests activism gets you thinking beyond the boundary of what is "yours" like the apartment.

If you still pay your power bills, many utilities allow you to pay a tiny premium that goes to say wind power. It's basically an off set so it can be controversial when you start paying for the invisible (can you say Madoff) so do a little homework. For our family of four its $8 a month.

    • The greenest thing anyone can do is to reject consumerism. Buy only the things that you actually actually "need" and don't be wasteful in your daily life.

Other than that I would highly recommend changing your shower head to a 1.5GPM (gallons per minute) model . . . that alone can have a HUGE impact.

I was just talking about it this for earth day at: http://current.com/items/89988493_save-water-save-money.htm

You could also change the faucet aerator in your bathroom to reduce water flow, and that is super cheap . . . only a dollar or two at a hardware store, though you'll probably want to talk to someone at the hardware store to make sure you're getting the right one. (If you live in SF I would recommend Cole Hardware, I used to work for them and they always had great staff on hand to answer questions like this)
