Let’s generate electricity by walking!

luvmegumi
Kohei Hayamizu has a bold vision for the future: a city that is in itself an electric power station. A place where all its roads, bridges and sidewalks generate electricity from the vibrations produced by the cars and people that move over them.

    • Someone in the U.S. has come up with this idea as well. It's quite an interesting product/concept. I did a mini report on it for one of my classes and if i recall correctly, it was proposed to be used on sidewalks if the U.S. was chosen to host the Olympics.

    • I just submitted this idea as part of an assignment a few weeks ago:

      19. A sidewalk that somehow harnesses the power of people stomping on it all day – I know this is a bit outlandish, but I’ve always thought of people walking as a gigantic waste of energy. In a dense area, the heat associated with friction from many feet hitting the ground must amount to some significant amount of energy that can be retrieved.

      Fuck.

    • wow if we install these pads in high traffic areas of cities all over the world I think that we could really lessen our carbon foot print. Places like tokyo, new york and london would be the perfect cities to try this out in.
