So when should we expect this in the big cities like NY who walk everywhere?
Can cats trigger it? If so I want one in my living room!! - 3 years ago

Stuff like this has been posted before, but it's awesome that people are finally starting to put it to use.

Someone in the U.S. has come up with this idea as well. It's quite an interesting product/concept. I did a mini report on it for one of my classes and if i recall correctly, it was proposed to be used on sidewalks if the U.S. was chosen to host the Olympics.

I just submitted this idea as part of an assignment a few weeks ago:
19. A sidewalk that somehow harnesses the power of people stomping on it all day – I know this is a bit outlandish, but I’ve always thought of people walking as a gigantic waste of energy. In a dense area, the heat associated with friction from many feet hitting the ground must amount to some significant amount of energy that can be retrieved.
Fuck.

Wow, you're a racist douche.
No one else even considered his ethnicity, we're all talking about the ingenuity of the concept.

wow if we install these pads in high traffic areas of cities all over the world I think that we could really lessen our carbon foot print. Places like tokyo, new york and london would be the perfect cities to try this out in.
