Valence this is a pretty good piece on what to do and it is from an individual not some corporation. We do the same thing in terms of using a reverse osmosis system and Sigg bottles. The system cost about $300 and we will be positive on that in about 4 to 5 months.

As a water treatment operator I like to think that my efforts to produce safe potable water aren't just flushed down the toilet. Go ahead and DRINK that tap water, please!

Maybe I will help you distribute those boxes of fresh air across the country, callenstewart. You should check out greenwala.com. Elizah Leigh has posted some articles that will cause you to do a double take. Please check this link and see for yourself!

Amen!
Even if you take away the environmental impact, it's absurd!
Maybe I can sell boxes of fresh air to people.

You are dead on-- Hop to it! In this consumer culture of ours, people have proven time and time how willing they are to part with their money for the absolute most stupid, pointless things. The bottled water masterminds must have been laughing their heads off when they saw they profit and loss statements in 2008. I want IN on your boxed air idea.

No, we have never needed bottled water. Why pay for something you can bottle in your own home for next to nothing?

Amen krush_productions! As for the 'why'.... pure convenience I suppose. Good tasting clean water packaged in a convenient bottle that can be easily disposed of. I am a huge fan of the Brita water filter/pitcher and a plastic bottle that I carry wherever I go. Yes, it requires a little more effort on our part than just breaking open a case of Poland Spring, but DIY water bottles greatly diminishes the amount of waste we produce each week. THAT is a good thing!

This article is right on target! When we consistently make even the smallest eco-responsible changes in our lives, our planet reaps the benefits.

There's another article on Greenwala called "The Casualties Of A Plastic-Obsessed Culture" that adds a lot to this discussion. I never realized just how toxic a simple material could be -- check it out here: http://www.greenwala.com/my_blog/810-The-Casualties-Of-A-Plastic-Obsessed-Cultur...

This is an amazing article! More people need to realize what a waste they are causing by constantly buying plastic bottles just tossing them out.
