Michael Pollan: The Almond and the Bee: Crop Pollination May Kill Colonies

leahl
In Defense of Food author Michael Pollan says the high demand of pollinating central California's almond crop may be contributing to the collapse of bee colonies. Pollan says bees are shipped in from around the globe and even given "high fructose corn syrup so they will be sturdy enough to attack the almond crop."

i help my neighbors beekeep occassionally; and we NEVER NEVER NEVER feed them high fructose corn syrup when they're low on natural resources. you feed the bees s*@#, they'll produce s*@# and die!

also, keep moving bees, and eventually we'll lose them forever.

I'm EXTREMELY LIVID about this; i'm going to post an article about our bee crisis every week.

hopefully, we can prevent the bee eradication for their sake and ours.

checkout the link above for a great bee documentary.

      thanks leahl for posting this!
