Lift up the carpet. Put a roasting pan under the wax mess. Pour boiling water slowly on the wax. The wax will drip into the roasting pan. This way you don't have to worry about too much heat from an iron or a hair dryer. I was helping some people get their rental deposite back when I thought of this. The wax of an entire candle was melted into the carpet. It worked completely, so there was no wax left at all. The land lady was very impressed ! We all laughed !
