Animal Rights Group

I've noticed a multitude of vegans, vegetarians and animal advocates on Current, so I figured we could use an AR group. I'm not a wonderful administrator for these sorts of things, so I'd like to add a few people as admins that are more driven than myself.

I'm not entirely sure what the perquisites or functions of a Current group are yet, but please post any suggestions you may have.

    • Abortion is a separate issue. Being pro-choice doesn't contradict the belief in animal rights. Life often isn't the overriding consideration. If it was, it wouldn't make sense to oppose animal consumption because the meat industry keeps billions of animals alive at any given time that wouldn't be in existence otherwise. The primary consideration therefore isn't life itself, but quality of life, which is usually the case for those who are pro-choice as well.

    • Don't mean to rain on anybody's parade, but so many of these animal rights people are also devotedly pro abortion- protection of ALL life- human, as well as animal. Folks like Peter Singer- devout believer in animal rights, equally as vocal when he discusses his enthusiasm for infanticide. But when I read about some sick kid some months ago who killed 8 or 9 cats, and the folks that keep hundreds of animals in inhumane conditions- (It seems like these sick ladies keep turning up! Are they all related?) these folks are reason enough to push more and greater awareness of animal rights!

    • Absolutely, but that's sort of inherent in the territory. Hi Cookies, by the way (may I call you Cookies?). Didn't realize you were into AR! One purpose of this group is already being achieved!

    • I'm also terrible at networking and whatnot, but I'm fairly confident that this group will attract members by virtue of its title alone.

If anyone has any interest in becoming a moderator (what benefits that confers, I'm not certain), let me know and I'll see what I can do.

    • I hadn't really thought of an exclusive focus beyond anything pertaining to animal rights. I had thought of it more in terms of information sharing, but there's no reason to limit its purpose. To be honest, I had intended to join a Current AR group and noticed that it was absent, so I created one without any clear intentions beyond simply putting the group into existence, so anyone else's suggestions are as good as mine.

    • This is a great idea. Can you tell us a little more about what you want to see in the group? Do you want it to be strictly information sharing, or do you want it to focus on call to actions?
