Who's To Blame For The Great Pacific Garbage Patch? Look In The Mirror.

Beyond the shock of the imagery, it seems as though the vast majority of our population can somehow empathize with sea creatures dining on oceanic pulverized plastic and feel bad about how it got there in the first place, but at the end of the day, the issue of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch drifts off into the distance.

Why is it that 3.5 million tons of plastic junk ended up floating in the middle of our ocean?

It's because of you and me and our neighbors and their family and work colleagues and casual acquaintances.

Passing the buck has never been acceptable, but now more than ever, it is inexcusable.

    • This is so sick. I've known about this for a few years now. I was talking about this recently to a friend of mine and he didn't even know that this existed. Sad.
The nations surrounding it should ban together and try to clean some of it up. What angers me the most is that not only are people dumping into our oceans but a lot of the debris is recyclable. This is intolerable!
Why can't the industry just produce green bags that break down like the one I compost with?
We are choking ourselves to death!

    • What if every citizen volunteered just 4 weekends to chip in and clean up? Even if just the greenies followed through, that would be a lot of bodies pitching in. Surely we could get somewhere in the mess?

Do youn know how many little sea critters live in that mess? I have worked on freezer boats in the gulf when you come across some thing in the water. It is surounded by sea life. besides it woud take a large fleet of boats with some kind of pump and filter setup. that would hardly be a green job with all the diesel well then again you could use biodiesel. well Ok then I guess it can be done. So who is going to pay for This clean up?
