Today’s CO2 highest in 15 million years, new research finds
The last time our planet’s atmospheric carbon dioxide levels were as high as they are today? Try 15 million years ago.
That according to research, published this week in the journal Science, by scientists at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
“The last time carbon dioxide levels were apparently as high as they are today — and were sustained at those levels — global temperatures were 5 to 10 degrees Fahrenheit higher than they are today, the sea level was approximately 75 to 120 feet higher than today, there was no permanent sea ice cap in the Arctic and very little ice on Antarctica and Greenland,” said the paper’s lead author, Aradhna Tripati, a UCLA assistant professor in the department of Earth and space sciences and the department of atmospheric and oceanic sciences.

He said faster climate change than at any other time in planetary history?! B.S. We're talkin about a 500 million year history. Nobody knows how fast it changed other than MODERN HISTORY. I know i've heard enough. factories contribute 80% of green house gases emitted by mankind. Volcanoes contribute 75% of all green house gases. So 80% of the 25% is not from personal emmisions. After they regulate the crap out of factories, that still leaves the problem of the volcanoes. Good luck with that one. Who knows maybe god made the world because he could make everything but plastic or rubber. The bigger the issue the bigger the chance the government uses the issue to get more of our money. Global warming has been around since the ice age but only since Al Gore has it become a billion dollar industry.

darinK:
Ice core samples record atmospheric gas levels back hundreds of millions of years. Soil strata, coral reefs and sea sediment containing pollen record the climate back further yet.
Volcanoes actually cool the planet with the icehouse gas SO2.
