Editorial: Blog Action Day

While the idea of bloggers from around the world posting about the same issue on the same day sounds fascinating, I regret to inform you that this has been done on numerous occasions already this year. Remember when Radiohead did something? Or that one time Michael Jackson died? How about when the black President moved into the white President’s house? I suggest you make Blog Action Day a multi-annual event, because assuming your special event will be the one time all year that bloggers unite to spew the same goddamn thing is a little presumptuous and conceited on your part.

“This years event will be focused on Climate Change”. Uh…I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, Mr. Slutsky (hehe), but we bloggers are hacks who carry no credibility and can barely complete sentences. Judging by your phrasing, improper capitalization and the lack of apostrophe in the quoted sentence, I’m going to assume you’re a blogger as well. You’re doing nothing to help our credibility by choosing climate change as your focus. Do you know what’s even more full of shit than bloggers? Climate change.

Yes, the climate changes and it was cold this summer and rainy some other time and Noah Wyle’s polar bears can’t find any icebergs to kill seals on and that’s all fair and good, but you’re asking basement dwelling trolls to talk about something that most scientists can’t agree on. May I suggest you change your focus to something along the lines of addressing the best way into Mordor, writing fan fiction about Megan Fox’s vagina or discussing the impending doom that 2012 will bring to the human race (the film, not the actual year).

Also, a phrase like “the largest-ever social change event on the web” means nothing in real life words. It does sound cool, though. I may steal it and add it to my business card, so thanks in advance.

Congratulations on getting eleven of the top one hundred blogs to participate. That’s almost twelve percent! And nice job convincing TMZ to join in — I can’t wait to see how they spin a nip slip into something environmental. “It’s so bonkers outside that Michelle Trachtenberg’s nipple popped out to see what the hell is going on with the climate. Please recycle.”

I appreciate you attaching a press release, but I’ve done enough masochistic reading for the day. I have decided not to participate in your global outreach program this year because it sounds lame and contrived. Please consider me for future events, though.

Thank you,
