What Happened to this rock?

What happened? how did this happen? was it Lightning? erosion? or maybe water froze in the bolder and split it? let me know what you think!

    • Looks like granite. Since there are no cliffs that I can see, it may have been carried by a massive flood, or via glacier melt, notice boulders on outer river bank on other side. Where is this?

      Freeze and thaw. Water is an amazing eroding force.

    • I would say water seeped into a crack then froze, thus expanding and fracturing the rock.

      It is odd though, that the fracture is almost straight up and down.
