The shea tree is indigenous to Africa, and it thrives in the savannas of 19 countries across the continent. Shea trees can grow up to 200 years old, but like olive trees they don’t start bearing fruit until they’re pretty mature — about 25 years — which makes cultivation somewhat difficult.
