What effects could GM plants have on humans and other life forms? Bacillis thuringiensis (Bt) is a naturally ocurring bacteria, found in the soil. It is also deadly to certain insect larvae. By inserting genetic material into the DNA of corn, we can create a crop that contains a Bt protein toxic to bugs. How happy should we be about that?

The Green Man asked the experts. Our panel includes biotechnologist Brian Ellis and political scientist Yves Tiberghien of UBC, and bioethicist Pat Howard and plant biotechnologist Zamir Punja of SFU.
