A world without bees would be a world without humans.

Why? They are the planet’s ultimate pollinators – causing flowers to produce seeds, nuts, fruits and vegetables.

More than 75% of the world’s most important crops need pollinators (mainly honeybees, bumblebees, and native bees). Without pollinators? No more strawberries, almonds, cherries, pumpkins, blueberries, apples, or honey – much of the colour and vitamins in our diet.

Is this the “dangerous” animal the council warns about?Fewer dairy products and meat, too – bees pollinate the plants we feed to cattle. Wild plants and animals would also struggle.

Einstein was a smart guy, maybe the smartest guy ever. So when he said that the disappearance of bees would lead, within four years, to the disappearance of humans, people took notice.

    • my ecology teacher said that her hives left after they built a cell phone tower near by, its something to think about since the towers are going up every where

      I just posted this article a few days ago. There seem to be many theories as to why this is happening, and now overfatigue due to less hives is one of the reasons. Mites, viruses ( which also could be because of the exacerbation of climate change effects such as erratic weather patterns, droughts, etc.) pesticides, and also GMOs are all being considered as reasons for this CCD. In my opinion it is a combination of pesticides and GMOs. I believe bees are trying to pollinate GMO crops and are dying off because of the bacteria in them. It could also be from transgenic contamination blowing onto natural crops and bees trying to pollinate them as well. The invasion of these unnatural substances in the natural world is now making its effects known.The signs are there and we must see them before it is truly too late. Rachel Carson gave us a wake up call about this all those years ago, and still we have learned nothing. And that is not an 'anti-corporate' screed, but a clear warning as to what our apathy regarding the processes of nature in thinking we have the ultimate power in controlling it is wrecking upon the biodiversity we as humans also need to survive.

    • well how will plants pollinate without the bees todo it?
      granted not all plants would die. but they would drop if bees werent there todo there jobs.

      You got it, Rod, but hey watch out someone will say you're crazy and those are just vapor trails that last for hours instead of minutes. You conspiracy nut, the bees are disappearing because they don't like illegal immigrants. LOL. Chemicals, chemicals are everywhere and they ARE spraying them in our skies to keep us sickly and cause cancers etc. Got to keep the money merry-go-round spinning, you know.

    • A realistic tone? Sorry, this all all but unrealistic. I don't believe this to be unbalanced at all either considering the devastating impact a situation like this could have. However anyone interested can ignore how I posted this, and do some self research on the subject.

    • While the decline of bees is a bad thing, it is just as bad to resort to fear mongering.

      Keep a realistic tone, not a "the sky is falling" one.

      The actual DailyGreen article you quoted all but debunked the Einstein quote, and had a more balanced perspective.

    • It's truly alarming, the thought of the disappearing bees. Even more worryingly, I haven't heard any updates from the scientists looking for the cause(s) of colony collapse disorder.
