Cutting dairy out of your diet completely might feel a little extreme for some folks, but even cutting back consumption can make a huge difference in your food’s environmental impact. Luckily, it’s simple and delicious to plan dairy-free meals! Here are some substitution ideas for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I confess I didn't know hemp milk existed. Interesting concept though.
In addition to the recent bad news in GMO soy milk research, there are those that argue even organic soy milk is bad for you. Comments?
Last question: is goat's milk cheese a bad thing for oneself, or the the planet?
(If the answer is yes, a lot, lot, more of you dear, fast-breeding simian viruses need to get off my planet now so I can live a few more years in more perfect bucolic peace and splendor, thank you...)

There are others who can answer this far better than I, but goat's milk cheese is made from goat's milk... and goat's milk is intended for baby goats, not humans. So there's that.
It also means that those poor goats are being factory farmed, which -- at least for us well-meaning vegans -- is a "no-no," because ethical vegans don't support the exploitation of any animals.

Just thought of this! Here's a photo of what most goats' lives are all about when they're farmed to produce goat's milk for humans.

I volunteer at Animal Acres, and your photo reminds me of our rescued cows and steers.
I wonder how many people have had the opportunity to nuzzle up to a cow. They're such wonderfully affectionate, playful beings... soft to the touch... sweet eyes... with loads of personality.
Here's a photo of an Animal Acres rescue.

Ooh..I've never run across rice cheeses here. Have you ever tried Daiya? It's made from tapioca, and it's out of control. It totally melts, and it's got no soy in it.

If you can't find it by you, Cosmo's Vegan Shoppe has it online. Full disclosure: The owners are pals of mine, but I was a fan of Cosmo's before I met them. :)

Daiya's really wonderful. Its "meltability" alone makes it sensational.
I'm thrilled that "my" local Whole Foods Market carries Daiya, both in blocks and also in their just-released new zip-locked bags.
Also, ZPizza -- for all you vegans -- is now using Daiya, as well as their usual dairy cheeses. Nothing like picking up a slice of pizza, and watching the non-cheese string out.

Oh, almost forgot!
I talked with a Daiya person a couple of days ago, and learned that their name is pronounced: DAY-uh. Everyone I've been chatting with was saying: DYE-yuh. Who would have thought?

Ohman, I wonder if our WF has it! So much closer to my house than Cosmo's, unfortunately. And thanks for the info about pronouncing! I was def. saying DYE-yuh. :)

Including myself, I never heard anyone pronounce it the "correct" way!
Definitely call that Whole Foods Market and ask, and make sure you get someone who knows what the heck you're talking about. If nothing else -- meaning, if they're not yet carrying it --you'll be making them aware of the fact that there is a solid interest in it.
If you are a semi-regular of WFM (I go when I have saved up enough to AFFORD to shop there), you'll find it in the "prepared" or "packaged" cheese section. When the shredded version first came out -- and as late as two weeks ago -- it was still being sold in lidded plastic containers. So I'm happy the companies have gone to a less environmentally-unfriendly packaging.
I've been making all sorts of Mexican meals using Daiya. Yum, yum, yum!

I'm like you...hitting up WF when I have a little extra cash to splurge. :)

Damn shame, isn't it, when we vegans would LOVE to load up on all the vegan selections WFM has to offer?!
I have to save up like crazy, then make a list, and force myself to KEEP to that list.
