Enough is enough!
We, the people have had enough of environmental destruction. The gulf oil spill is the tipping point of your greed, of your corporatism that only welcomes short term financial gain and puts profit over people.
We've had enough of killing marine life with unknown repercussions on our Nature, we've had enough of contamination of our fresh water supplies, we've had enough of oil spills that only endanger our health, the well being of our Mother Earth and the future of our children.
We want you, as our government, as a body of representation of the people of the United States to invest billions into alternative, true environmental and sustainable energy. No more delaying.
NO MORE "Drill, Baby, Drill!", no more deaths, no more killing.
Please sign and take action in a powerful way now:

This is good. I agree with a drilling ban on petroleum.
However, we do need a way to power our vehicles.
We do have ways to do that. With biofuels. Ethanol, biodiesel, and methane---yes, natural gas(methane) is both a fossil fuel and a biofuel.
Vehicles that run on natural gas are popular in Europe and South America.
Multifuel vehicles are available that can use petroleum, compressed natural gas and even gasoline/ethanol/compressed natural gas in any mixture are available.
Send all the petitions you want to Washington or anywhere else---nothing will change so long as Big Oil has a monopoly on your ability to chose what fuel to put in your vehicle. Until consumers have a choice, oil will continue its monopoly status. Monopolies are not good for consumers or business---we've known that for 100 years, since the time of Theodore Roosevelt.
To break the monopoly hold of oil over consumers, politics and all its attendant evils----consumers need to have a real and effective alternative choice.
We need to mandate that all vehicles be multifuel capable. They need to be able to use biofuels and methane.
We need to have a choice not to use petroleum. Without a choice available to consumers not to have to use petroleum---nothing else matters.
We need to push to get vehicles made that can use multiple fuels.

The wish, with this petition, is to invest billions of dollars now into safe, sustainable, alternative energies, one of them like you mentioned could be biofuel (not gmo) for example.
In my opinion, that is the only practical way to get bio-fueled vehicles on the road.
Soon enough and gradually, the market, the people will make the switch and the oil monopoly and dependency will be eliminated. - 2 years ago

If we have no need for petroleum, there will be no need to ban drilling. And that is only one way of many we can benefit.
I am sympathetic to your wish to ban drilling. But I'd rather see us have no drilling because no one wants to use it.
Drilling bans can be lifted especially when enough money is involved. If there is no money to be made by drilling for oil----we won't need to worry about drilling bans being rescinded or bought off.

Why do they need so much personal information? I'm not a huge fan of that many specifics. Name and city should be sufficient enough, I would think.

The reason is because some petitions in the past were dismissed as non valid or true.
All that information makes your signature reliable and if you can personalize the letter it's even better. - 2 years ago
