As long as the citizens of our country remain convinced that a two party system which basically pits red vs blue is what we have to chose from, we will continue to tread down this path of profits before people. When we finally (if we ever do) decide to replace legislators who vote laws, rules and regulations that support corporations profit model, then we can begin to heal.

"They" have the system sewn up quite tightly at present queenofit, if we do move through this tragic period of darkness, it will be interesting to see how it is played out in this world theatre of the absurd and insane... where black is white, peace is war, democracy is slavery, and the psychos rule.

Thanks, SeaJade, that is quite an absorbing article. I knew nothing about this before. I forwarded it to a friend who is more savvy about the behavior of the market than I. I wonder if there have been comments since on this by Goldman Sachs or others.

Unravelling this is complicated - Goldma Sachs - clearly being "beyond" the law, have nothing to say, they are laughing all the way to the off shore island they call home, along with the rest of the American people's money and assets, along with the rest of the worlds'.... John Perkin's "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" will add another level to this.... there are a lot of spiders in this web...

Whats your opinion on this story Jan
"Federal Government Scrutinizes Amish Farming"
"With simplicity as their credo, Amish farmers consume so little that some might consider them model environmental citizens
We are supposed to be stewards of the land,” said Matthew Stoltzfus, a 34-year-old dairy farmer and father of seven whose family, like many other Amish, shuns cars in favor of horse and buggy and lives without electricity. “It is our Christian duty.”
But farmers like Mr. Stoltzfus are facing growing scrutiny for agricultural practices that the federal government sees as environmentally destructive. Their cows generate heaps of manure that easily washes into streams and flows onward into the Chesapeake Bay.
And the Environmental Protection Agency, charged by President Obama with restoring the bay to health, is determined to crack down. The farmers have a choice: change the way they farm or face stiff penalties."

I think that the government is hypocritical if they would fine Amish farmers and yet allow factory farms to get away with it. I think laws should be in place to provide for sustainable agricultural practices across the board with consistency.

Read with interest, thanks....
I met an young man a few years back. He mentioned the controversy surrounding his role. He was a rare Amish man working with the USDA. I didn't appreciate that to the full extent of what he was saying until now.
Maybe this young man biased me, but my impression of Amish people are that they are highly rational, along with their other positive traits. Its no wonder that they are more responsive to sustainable agricultural practices than cars and luxuries.

I feel exactly the same way, but some contrast is pertinent here:
The federal concept of sustainable agriculture is practiced though the USDA. A farmer wishing grans, loans, and information must go to one of the USDA/NRCS service centers. The NRCS mission includes opportunity for small farmers.
The EPA provides the police role. One the one hand, I respect the risk and complexity of officers in the police role. The question is what happens when the fox becomes in charge of the henhouse.
