CB/CP - A subsidiary of Capital Power Corp. (TSX:CPX) has cleared a major hurdle and received an environmental approval from the B.C. government for its proposed $455-million Quality wind project near Tumbler Ridge, B.C
The company, headquartered in Edmonton, said Tuesday the B.C. government concluded that the 142-megawatt project will not have "significant adverse effects" based on conditions of the assessment certificate.
As part of the decision, the company received an Environmental Assessment Certificate for the facility, which will include 79 wind turbines.
"This major regulatory milestone in the development of the Quality wind project allows us to continue moving forward with our goal of bringing clean power to British Columbians by 2012," said Capital Power president and CEO Brian Vaasjo.
Construction at the site is expected to start later this year while operations are targeted to begin before the end of 2012.
