You're stupid if you think water can't go BOOM, because if you think its bullshit, then you're just going to die a miserable death like the rest of humanity.

The Permian-Triassic extinction event wiped out 95% of life on earth. One THEORY is that massive amounts of methane hydrates released from the sea floor was the cause. Two other theories include vulcanism and a meteor or asteroid impact. Contrary to the article posted at the link above, methane has not been PROVEN to be the cause of the extinction. That's why it's only a theory. The only thing scientists are certain about is that the extinction occurred, nothing else.

I hear that! But then again, there's not many people that would sit through the whole thing like we would. Most people in this country seem to have "science ADD".

Well, they did take a sample at a marina where boats are fueling up and stuff, so I'd guess that had something to do with the last sample.

I'm going to say you would find oil on any of the beaches around here. We have a lot of boat and ship traffic. I believe they still run on petrol of some kind so yes you will find it and any of it's by product on the local waters and beaches.

Yeah. I mean, it's certainly possible but I don't know. I'm thinking there may have been a lab error becuase I'm sure the concentration of methanol needed to cause an explosion is rather high. Not something you can just extract from a few cc's of water. Maybe I'm wrong.

And why didn't they use an actual control sample? The guy just assumed a 15 ppm background.
