'Fracking' Mobilizes Uranium in Marcellus Shale

We all know that fracking, or fracturing the shale to get at natural gas resources, pollutes the ground water supply with a number of chemicals that are used to process this "clean energy."
Well...it appears that uranium is among one of those pollutants.

FTA:
When Bank and her colleagues reacted samples in the lab with surrogate drilling fluids, they found that the uranium was indeed, being solubilized.

In addition, she says, when the millions of gallons of water used in hydraulic fracturing come back to the surface, it could contain uranium contaminants, potentially polluting streams and other ecosystems and generating hazardous waste.

    • And the companies doing this will still say it is "safe." Denial brought on by greed. In 2005 because of Cheney's intervention, Congress created what is known as the Halliburton loophole to clean water protections in federal law to prevent the EPA from regulating hydrofracking even though they knew the dangers to water resources and serious health concerns. Halliburton reportedly earns $1.5 billion a year from its energy operations, a substantial part of that due to hydrofracking.

Luckily the word seems to be getting out as environmentalists around the country bring this into mainstream. With scientists coming forward, proving how bad this is, and more people paying attention....with so many people out of work they have plenty of time to search the net and watch other news stories, which is a damn sad fact.
Whether the info it will do much good at the top, where it needs to be, only time and effort will tell.
Keep up what you're doing, Jan. You've opened my eyes a lot.

Marcellus, New York is in Onondage County where I live. It's one of
the most beautiful, picturesque communities immaginable. Set in a
valley, it reminds me of what life must be like in Vermont our neighbor.
I worked as a security officer in the Marcellus area. I've seen it in all
its 4 seasons, which are realy something here in New York. The evil
of the Bush/Cheny Piracy R US regime lives on after them. Fortunately
as I'll be voting in the New York elections at least, our new State Gov
people may have the backbone necessary to stand up to Halliburton.
