As Durban happens, what happened to the urgency on climate change?

JanforGore
I know why the U.S. media isn't really covering this conference. The truth is out and their fossil fuel company sponsors want to keep it HUSH HUSH. And I know why Obama and other politicians don't say the words climate change now... can't mention the words in an election year! It's taboo! Got to get those millions in donations to pay for those attack ads! That is surely more important now to them than the 6 degree rise we will now more than likely see in temperature by 2100. That is more important than the prolonged more frequent droughts, floods, storms, erratic rainfall patterns, diseases, glacier melt, crop failure, water scarcity, deforestation, hunger, species extinction, biodiversity loss, ocean acidification, climate refugees and deaths we are already seeing globally. Right? We can complain all we want about government but in the end we will have no one to blame but ourselves if we allow them to continue running this world at the behest of their benefactors while we watch this happening.

Yes thanks, and we could post every other piece of evidence that has already been posted here... and still silence on the part of so many. Is there a self destruct button built into us? I'm beginning to wonder.

Don't really even see this covered on Current TV either... This is part of OCCUPY.

    • Point on video: The elite DO know where we are headed and hope to make a profit from this crisis. Just look at the Arctic oil and mineral grab, the landgrabbing in Africa, REDD, corruption in carbon markets, the privatization of water. How could anyone with a brain and eyes not realize what is happening unless they are being paid to not see it?! Greed has driven them over the edge. And yes, sustainable agriculture IS a big part of the solution, glad it was mentioned. The 1% does not have the right to hold our children's fate in their hands. Boycott, use less, cut off the bank's funding to coal and tarsands projects, start your own sustainable agriculture coop, call for carbon taxes (different from cap and trade) which holds them accountable for it at the source to move them onto renewable energy... just a few things we can do. Of course, the one thing we must do is call for the end of corporate personhood... it's destroying our only home. Economic justice is climate justice.

    • The most maddening thing is that even people who believe in climate change are in serious denial!
Psychologists need to be much more involved in this discussion.

what? you mean those humanists that deny religion? I am of course being cynical. Our being taken over by social darwinist with bible in hand has been discussed by the mental health profession. I can't list them all, but the comparisons to abused women, raped women, raped children, comes to my mind. Also denial when facing death usually manifests as party time for many. Then there is the addiction to power. I do agree mental health is helpless but only because it too, has been raped of money and concern by a culture of dominiainist. You got a problem get Jesus! therapists were some of the first to be shut down and vilified by the right.
