Al Gore Speaks About Constitutional Abuses

JanforGore
Al Gore joined with then Republican Bob Barr to bring us a stark truth: Our Democracy is in grave danger. On this July 4th I remember this landmark speech delivered by a great statesman, Al Gore. And like our founding fathers whose words are still prescient today, so are the words and warnings presented in this eloquent speech describing truthfully the abuses committed against our Constitution by the Bush administration and the enabling by both parties. And though I am displeased that neither Mr. Gore nor any prominent Democrat has specifically called for impeachment, I thank Mr. Gore with all of my heart for speaking truth to power here and for giving us a chance to share in a Democratic dialogue.

    • grease_weasel : I agree wholeheartedly. This country would have been all the better for his leadership there. However, i fear that he would have had to compromise his own beliefs and principles and forces would have been manipulating behind the scenes to sabotage him at every turn. Men of his eloquence deserve to be free to think for themselves. This speech proved that.

Your right, but the I feel the nature of a democracy is compromise in an effort to find common ground and hopefully it will evolve into a rational system. I believe Al is more effective in his current roll and the reason I like Al the most is he seems to have the priorities straight.

    • The people of this nation have grown complacent, and not vigilant as It should have been. Not just of external threats but of internal ones even if the threats have absolute power. Unfortunately the people of this country have been lied to since the current president has been lying to the people since his first campaign even as a primary candidate in 1999.

After the false arrests of democratic party members during the 2004 elections to slander the democratic party in key swing areas of the USA was the most overt blaspheme of this administration. Bush's Jacksonian bull shit, can not go uncontested, for our freedom we must say no. Who ever we vote in next must say no. If Bush bends the law to stay in office we must say no. The people have the power in this country to stop any injustice in this country. We can say no to anything this nation does by supporting legislation that will not stand for this abuse. We can hold actual rallies, not just against the war in Iraq, but agonized this corrupt regime.

If one person can take over the law, and break apart the unspoken consensus that is the law, and the spirit it is created for, this nation will fall. Will you let that happen? will you stand aside, or will you fight?

The lies, obfuscation, slight-of-hand, and misdirection of Bush are being striped away as we speak. We must spread this truth, it is our duty as informed citizens. Do not shirk this duty, don't just spread it in your like minded circle. Go out side your community and spread the truth. This is my duty as well, I will spread this as far as I can.

If the worst happens I will see all of this community in Gitmo. I pray that that will not happen.

    • maasanova: You are surely entitled to your opinion regardless of how misguided it may be.:-) Al Gore gave us Current. I think that speaks volumes about what he intended for the people to do in this equation. What have you (in general) done? I think that should be the question here. He has done plenty to speak out and show his dedication to the Democratic process... the greatest act to me being getting out of the crap in Washington Dc and working to make change from out here... that can't be said about many others.

And yes, he is against the Patriot Act and all the other abuses of this administration and I suspect tired of the machinations on all sides. His writing The Assault On Reason proves that as well, though I will admit I was disappointed that the book didn't mention impeachment, but I think he was waiting for others to get the hint as well. I don't know.

That is why I was also disappointed when he endorsed this time in light of Obama's FISA vote and other things I am not liking about him at this time that show him as less than genuine and sincere. But he has done more I believe than you are willing to give him credit for out of your own biases, but again, that is your prerogative. I simply disagree with you on this. His words have inspired, and like the Founding Fathers that can go a long way if the people would only heed them and do their job as citizens.

    • Oh my God I can't listen to an hour of Al Gore blather on about the saving the Constitution which he knows good and well 99% of Congress are actively conspiring to kill because they are bought and paid for by AIPAC and other lobbyists.

Why speak out now Gore? I know you were against the Patriot Act, but what happened to you in between then and now?

Sorry Jan, I'll vote it up, but I gotta call it as I see it. It's too little too late for Gore to try and play hero now.
