Beijing Shifts Chinese Party Bosses in Tibet

Party Secretary, Zhang Qingli (above left) has been replaced as Chinese Communist Party Secretary in Tibet by Chen Quanguo (above right), but "there is no indication of a policy shift by Beijing on Tibet." China continues to punish Tibet for having a separate culture.

Zhang Qingli, who once described the Dalai Lama as "a wolf in monk's clothes, a devil with a human face" also claimed that the Chinese Communist Party was a "living Buddha." This type of psychotic rhetoric (which the Chinese Communist Party has consistently used against Tibetan culture) has underlined Beijing's irrational fear of diversity.

Tibetans long for positive change under the new Party Secretary.

    • I have great respect for the Dali Lama . Being peaceful is virtuous , however it appears Tibet and all its culture will be erased , after the last few die . Violence does beget violence , yes , but would we have evolved it , if it were not , at some point vital to survival ? This is where Buddhism loses me to the Earth/Goddess . What is more dangerous than a mother protecting her young ? Sometime , in order to save life a precious life , one must resort to violence . I wish it could be avoided . Unless another country is violent on Tibets' behalf , chances are getting slimmer by the day .

Excellent, valid points, Artemis6. There is a deep and pervasive force that can move Chine without physical violence, and that is the force of world opinion. The Chinese people are honorable, dignified, and respectful of how others view them. They have been subject to cultural trashing several times as a result of European and American meddling in their affairs, so they know how it feels when a bellicose, larger power forces its will upon them. They have the opportunity to show their magnanimity and wisdom by granting Tibet more respect than the Europeans or Americans granted them.

    • Unless we make ourselves more educated on the plight of Tibet, China will assert its iron fist with even more might than it already has.
Thank you for this P'Shiv, we all need to be more aware of the Tibetan peoples' fight for freedom and the ability to obtain and maintain their right to self-determination.

China's leaders are not ignorant, and they will eventually understand that, now that they are a preeminent world power, it is in their interest to foster a free, vibrant, and autonomous Tibet.
