On the 25th June 2010, the city of Bradford welcomed home British armed forces from Afghanistan. The controversial group known as the English Defence League showed up to welcome the troops home and to protect them from an extreme islamic group which has been disrupting recent home coming marches.

Tensions where high in Bradford as the EDL have confirmed a demonstration there for the 28th August. 2001 saw wide spread disorder fall upon Bradford as race riots erupted as a result of a far right group attempting to march through the city.

    • This isn't a clear cut situation. It's clear that what lies behind both sides is that neither feels as though the 'truth' is the whole 'truth' the ambiguity of the reasoning behind the wars is what drives both sides to the ends.

I - as a humanitarian - believe that extremism (in any form) is highly dangerous and I also understand that in a time of war, it's very difficult to get away from the 'us' and 'them' mentality.

Because the UK is such a welcoming nation this is what has taken place amongst it's citizens.

The solution is simple. Open, media-televised and frank debate supported by facts and evidence.
