Get excited! A mysterious little desert rodent, the long-eared jerboa, has been caught on tape for the first time. "In terms of mammals, they have one of the biggest ear-to-body ratios out there." They hop around like kangaroos, too. Awwww how cute.

    • CNN is also nuts for the little guy. In this link, Dr Jonathan Baillie of London's Royal Zoological Society also suggests that the jerboa is the "panda of the Gobi Desert"--that is to say, the jerboa is tiny, cute, and easy to relate to, an ideal face for promoting the conservation of endangered species. Dr Baillie explains that one big reason they've released this footage is to raise awareness, to underscore that there are * so many* little-known species, in Mongolia and elsewhere, that are well worth saving.
