"'Please, please, please, just give the dog back,' Ellen DeGeneres wept on national TV last week. It was a moment that quickly established itself in the pop culture firmament, less for the plight of Iggy the adopted terrier than for the copious crying itself.

Setting aside the question of whether those sobs were 100 percent genuine, tears are a natural human response, and public figures are obviously not immune. But some who study this most basic expression of feeling will tell you that in this day and age, it can be easier for a crying man to be taken seriously than a crying woman."

So, what do u think...is it more acceptable for men or women to cry?

    • We all have emotions for a reason. I'm a strong believer that if you feel like crying cry, scream when you feel like screaming, dance when you're happy! People see crying as a weakness, but in this day and age it takes real courage to show your emotions, and I think it should be accepted no matter who you are.

    • It's acceptable for anyone to cry. It just depends on the reason. If a man is crying because a coworker told him he's incompetent, then he's a weiner. If a woman is crying because she read a news article about children dying in a house fire, then it's understandable. On the flip side, if a rich woman who could have some mut cloned in Ireland is weeping about losing it, then it's absurd. If a man on the other hand is crying because he's been watching hours of clips of his favorite team on youtube and remembering when they were a national powerhouse compared to the pathetic weaklings they are now, then that's acceptable.

    • the whole situation is stupid, yes.
But Ellen doesn't have to prove that she's tough.
      Obviously she is.
She was one of the first celebrities to come out.
I think that's pretty damn tough right there.

    • "We've seen some horrendous injuries. Joe Theismann. Willis McGahee. Those guys more than earned the right to cry. But Dwyane Wade? Seriously, when Wade dislocated his shoulder, he boo-hooed like a teenage girl that was stood up at the prom. He set manhood back 130 years."

    • I think it is more acceptable for men to cry. When a man gets emotional, it's seen as a sign that he's sensitive. If a woman does, it's a sign that she's weak or hysterical. It seems like women have to prove they're tougher than men in order to be taken seriously.
