WHAT HIP-HOP IS MISSING

bboywannabe
I think this is what rap is missing, it seems like american hip-hop has feel off the path of its true purpose..to unite people through festive dance and good beats. Its like the world outside america has realized the power of unity through hip-hop but America has lost all its values when it comes to this, at least majority america-wise.

    • What American Hip-Hop is missing: Substance. Rappers these days are more into money than making a difference in thier communities, and children often emulate the glorified lifestyles portrayed in the medium becuase of it's allure. However, Gangsta Rap did not destroy the communties. It was the drug trade that did that, Gangsta Rap was a bi-product of that and used as a tool for this new drug-dealing generation to get out of poverty. It's exploitative nature helped fuel the very thing rappers sought refuge from while in the inner cities.

Currently we are seeing a resurgence of Backpack (or Conscious) Rap, which is mostly because of the over-saturation of today's mainstream rap. Hopefully this trend will become more popular as this is the substance missing from Hip-Hop. From it's origins, Hip-Hop was always an outlet created for empowering our culture, and lately that school of thought is slowly making it's way back to the forefront of our society.
