If You Build It, Will They Come?

In 25 years, will the current museum construction binge seem brilliant or foolish? Will it have advanced the mission of art museums, or merely diffused it?

    • i think if you look at the way that technology has begun to reshape the economics behind creating entertainment, we will see other incarnations of art and the exhibition of it. Leaner methods of producing television shows and independent movies are opening up the flood gates for other methods. Museums are loosing money every year. There is ongoing trend of high end collectors buying out alternative spaces and putting their collections on display for everyone....for free. We are seeing that in New York and London. I also believe that there is a huge shift in power occurring right now. Artists are more in control of their careers than ever before and because of that are finding other avenues to exhibit their work.

    • I don't see any problem with building amazing art museums... or amazing buildings in general. Think about Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. It certainly brings people to that city, just to see the building.
Check out this Current pod on one amazing art museum in the middle of America.
