Since the oceans have such a huge affect on weather on land, and different cultures evolved depending on how they adapted to thir climate, it makes you think about the different cultures that would evolve on each of these land masses. Where would the tropics be, versus the arctics, or the desert areas? What kinds of religions would we have?

To mattbrawn's comment, languages wouldn't be the same. If you live in the Los Angeles area, you can see how the different cultures can even communicate with each other in a 5 mile radius. Now imagine those Los Angelenos trying to communicate with people from Orange County...they speak english, but there are still cultural barriers.

Imagine the 'roadtrip' potential...
Would languages be the same? More people having easier access to each other must surely have an effect on how we communicate...

that would definitely make traveling to germany to visit family more interesting and scenic then staring at miles and miles of ocean on a flight. but on the other hand the loss of water and marine life would be devistating at least from the majority of our current lifestyles and habits.

But, it's weird -- this IS what the world's map looks like to like 50% of all creatures on earth, right? (From fish to dolphins to all of those waterborne microbes.) And the smarter ones probably do have a sense of variation & region as distinct as this map makes out -- "oh yeah, the ridge just west of the warm spot, two miles down" etc.
Okay, not like that exactly. I know this isn't the Little Mermaid. But still.

the great lakes is where we would send all the prisoners. We'd drudge canals from ocean to ocean to connect them all and I would be president.

Me thinks we might be a little short on water. I wonder if the world would be hotter? Would the world be more "connected"?
