If people of wealth wish to spend thousands of dollars on a tire casing, then I say let them have at it. I can get the same thing at the local car parts store for a bit cheaper, but I'm certain those will have much less artistic value. That's a sacrifice I'll just have to make.

85,000 - 10 mill for something that was created in a "manufacturing studio...?"

The traveling twin, with her lovely exotic voice, has exemplified the South Florida culture by describing the vast difference in art appreciation. Her interview with the artisans completely illustrated what living in South Florida is like: you have lovely models who will sell you a wheel cover seemingly as a sculpture , and the rich idiots who clutter our beaches with their grossly huge high rises that buy the 'sculpture.' Then there are those of us that actually live here and appreciate the simpler, finer forms of life, i.e. a walk on an uncrowded beach, We, who creatively shape the consciousness of those around us and display it through our art, no matter what the end result is; art or not, who is to say? WELL DONE TRAVELING TWIN!!

good one. i think the main question here is the social context. money, curators, beauty, concept, usage, collectors, social status.
that last line is quit interesting: "the supreme court cant decide on what is consider pornography, much less art".. that is probably what sums it up. - 4 years ago

Awesome pod.
It's got a great, whimsical style and flow to it. The quirky narration fits as well.
I like how it raises the question of what exactly art is and how interpretive the term "art" can be. Also, nice find of the two different events and juxtaposing them together for the purpose of discussing the topic.

What's wonderful about art is that it is a universal and unique thing. People from all different cultures can look at the same picture, but there could be a million interpretations and that is what make art- ART.Whether a child scibbles his or her crayons onto the wall, or whether it's an artist who took years to create a sculpture or image, they are come from deep down within us.
