The story has been slowly leaking into the mainstream from there. News wire UPI basically echoed the Post piece, while Fox News posted a surprisingly balanced take on the controversy. International wire AFP's story, meanwhile, doesn't seem to see anything wrong with the exhibit at all. So is this piece a triumph or a travesty?

In my opinion it will be a shame if Taito pursues legal action against the makers of this instalation. Whether you agree/ disagree/ just don't get the message the creators were attempting to communicate at least they managed to engage the American culture through art. Which is one of the higest aims of art; to engage the culture it is created in.

It is about time we take a lighter look at 9/11.
Personally, I cannot wait for a time when we can actually talk about it without someone stopping the conversation because someone may have lost a loved one in the attack. I'm sorry for the loss and all, but what good is being done by censoring ourselves and others whenever this topic comes up? - 3 years ago

I really see nothing wrong with it, the attack was terrible but it has been 7 years, we are profiteering off of 9/11ourselves with shallow bumper stickers and movies hiding behind the noble veil of 'tributes'. By being offended by this, and by being so terrified (see our current loss of rights through FISA and other idiotic acts by our government and citizens) we are giving our attackers what they want our fear and apprehension.
I in fact challenge anyone here to go find and play Super Columbine Massacre RPG, and read everything on its creators page, it shows exactly why people tend to make these things.

Looks a little more like Centipede meets Space Invaders. It's art because of the WTC backdrop likeness... otherwise, it's a big Atari projection with Wii-like interface. Good times!

I don't see how this is 'an articulated and critical commentary about the current war strategy'. Art that requires someone with a graduate degree to explain why it's art is useless. They could have picked something that made more sense if they were trying to convey that message. It would have made more sense to have the background in the game be Baghdad.
Anyway, you're defending the Towers; what's the problem?

Well Hollywood made a totally fictional movie about Flight 93 when we know it was really shot down so I don't see a problem here.

in all fairness, controversy and art often go hand-in-hand... like pb & j, only more polarizing and not nearly as delicious.

I think this is a great game. I don't think the makers intended for the buildings to represent the World Trade Center, its just an urban setting. Those buildings could easily look like Downtown LA as much as it looks like Downtown Manhattan. Great Job!

I feel bad for the families of those lost in the tragedy but at the same time it's art. Art is usually not a topical medium and the said meaning of this piece (about the war) is very true to form. I think it's a great piece and the controversy is probably good for it. Some people still think that art with a naked person is just pornography so what would you expect if someone made something as creative and controversial as this?
